One of the best shows of the 90s, and one of the first mecha shows I ever watched. Izumi is still among my favorite anime characters.

Movie was doomed from the start. The important between information necessary to the film plot was done as part of a game nobody played. This was back when multi-media cross story telling was a new and scary thing and the internet was no help. .Hack tried it as well, a bit more successfully, but Nadesico just blew it.

Had to look it up at ANN just now, but he's credited for working on ep 26 of Nadesico. And he never quit animation, he's been freelancing since at least the 1990s. I think his most recent credits are from 2014. He's been involved in some fairly high-profile projects, even. Like, back in the 90s he worked on Patlabor 2 and the Utena movie.
