The whole anime is about Machi being technophobic, having social anxiety and dreams of the future that are impossible with her weaknesses.
Instead of ending the anime on a hopeful note of challenging her anxiety or other weaknesses, the bear mindbreaks her into a dull country bumpkin who cannot care to challenge herself and would rather be taken care of for the rest of her life.

Personally I think the anime end was a good end.
In a sense that end made the most sense.

People don't change that easily and the ending really nailed down how'd it go for most people with the same kind of issues.
Why the fuck should Machi overextend herself again and again to traumatic experiences which will only make her suffering worse when she already pretty much has everything; occupation, skills and self sustained lifestyle.
Some thing should stay as it is and the anime end never really outright (except from what the kuma initially wished, being his personal opinion) said that Machi would never ever never step outside to the civilization, she'd just probably take it really slow; as people with such illnesses SHOULD do.
tl;dr the anime end was the most practical one.
