He's Bach's dad, Soul Society presumably beat him up and used his torso and head to power their soul cycle machine.
Last arc Aizen thought having a corpse run the soul machine that powers the universe was boring so he tried to take over the universe because he wanted to be in charge.
This arc Bach wants revenge for Soul Society mutilating his father so he's presumably gonna destroy the whole universe because of how buttmad he is.
But even though he theoretically has the means to do that he's fighting Aizen right now, the one guy whose hax bullshit is retarded enough to counteract his own hax bullshit.
So basically the two final bosses are fighting but neither of them really has an endgame anymore because one of them already ate God and apparently that doesn't count as winning.
I have no idea what the fuck Kubo is doing but I can't wait to see.

That's partly just nostalgia, because people complained about Aizen's lack of motivation and because Aizen was first. Aizen could have been just some random dude with a god complex and not much would have changed about him. But Yhwach is heavily tied to the story of the Soul King. His past and the reasons and motivations behind is character are a major appeal of his character. Beyond that his good point is only that he does shit unlike Aizen.
Probably everyone wanted to see that one flashback that tells the story of the Quincy from the sealing of the Soul King to the first blood war and Soken's defection after the Quincy massacre.
But now the best one can hope for is if the Soul King reveals how the whole war was his doing and becomes the antagonist of the sequel, so that we can find out there.

Aizen probably objected to the "rule" of a figure imprisoned in crystal. Aizen himself would be an active Soul King and boss people around. He may or may not have aimed to upset the existing order, perhaps by allowing Hollows greater freedom to eat souls.
Aizen's vague motives and goals still make more sense than Yhwach's, who has essentially won and now says that he will "destroy" Soul Society and the real world for totally unknown reasons.

Yhwach's motivation is the same as Aizen's. They both want to change the world because as Aizen said "a victor must speak of how the world should be". They are both displeased with the way the current world works. And given what we've seen from Soul Society so far, it's not hard to see how they would come to that conclusion. The difference between the two is that Aizen simply wants to change the world by ruling over it, while Yhwach wants to create a whole new world. Yhwach only absorbed the Soul King because he realized that he and his body parts are immune to the Almighty. If it weren't for that, he would have already destroyed everything and created the world anew. It was simply a safety measure, which had the side effect of prolonging his plans.
The question is why they developed the desire to rule the world. With Aizen it's because of his meeting with the Soul King. Whatever happened there displeased him so much that he wanted to change the world. With Yhwach it's unknown but presumbly it's also related to the Soul King's true nature. He was displeased when he saw him in the crystal prison and wanted to end his humiliation.Though both are also massive assholes.
Related to that it's unknown what exactly the conclusion of Urahara was, when he saw the Soul King. He seemed to be displeased, but didn't do anything because "that's the way the world is". Yet his poem and Bankai imply the opposite, that Urahara will change things.
The whole "how the wolrd is" vs "how it should be" may also be the motivation of Pernida and Mimihagi, since one represents progress/change and the other stillness/stagnation.

If I had to guess, Aizen wanted to replace the Soul King because (A) he couldn't bear knowing somebody was above him on the totem pole, and (B) he thought an inactive and crystallized quadriplegic is a piss-poor ruler.
I doubt he would have killed anyone after that. The only captain he actually tried to kill was Yamamoto, because of how insanely powerful and stubborn the geezer was. Aizen may have hoped the other captains would fall in line once he grabbed power.

What are the chances of the anime returning? If Bleach really ends in a couple of months there would be no fear of catching up to the manga. Hell, they've got enough to air the anime for close to two years I reckon.

If Kubo wasn't a complete hack with no concept of restraint who bites off more than he can chew. If he didn't make a billion characters and give them each 10 chapters of pointless backstory and duelling. If the fights were actually more than just "I'M BEHIND YOU", power ups and white/black beam attacks. If he used a panel layout that didn't slow the pacing to the level of a moonwalking senile snail. If he could actually write something that isn't the epitome of fedora wearing cringe.
Maybe if he had an editor who told him to stick to light hearted character stuff and keep the plot to a minimum. But then it wouldn't be Bleach.

When Ichigo first fought Yhwach he attempted to gouge his eyes after Yhwach tackled him. I know this is almost completely unfounded, but could Yhwach's eyes be vulnerable? What if his powers are reliant on his eyes and can't activate properly if one or both is unusable?
