Biggest time-skip troll I have ever seen.

Fuck this author, he really managed to trick me until the very last page.

And in the fucking last page, you can see the face of the damn person reflected in the damn manga at that very scene.

Must admit, this was genius.
>>
We need more Re:Zero and Takagi-san threads on /a/.
>>
>>144139532
Re:Zero is already 24/7 just like JoJo.

We need more Takagi-san and Terra Formars threads.
>>
>>144139421
This fucking chapter.

I never felt so trolled by a twist since the Arrancar Saga finale in Bleach.

Holy shit, like, I'm kinda between choking the author to death and hugging him at the same time right now.

Also, Chapter 32 is out, and jsut went back to the past out of nowhere too.

Talk about a Troll Author (you all feel free to add him on TVTropes in this very category, this pretty much confirms it)
>>
>>144139421
what happened now? I vaguely remember some ntr fags being butthurt a few days ago. Is this the same thing?
>>
Mommy Takagi-san is pretty damn hot.
>>
>see the face of the damn person reflected
What?
>>
>>144140625
She was always hot, even before having a kid

>>144140716
Most likely, OP is referring to the troll author talked in the phrase above that one.
>>
>>144140770
She's cute as a kid, but too loli for me. Her older self is a miracle of the universe.

My heart boner cannot possibly handle this Miki.

This guy is both a good artist and a decent writer. This chapter made me kinda sad that I'll never start a family.
>>
>>144141612
Now that I give it a second look, Miki's eyes are green, not blue. She has the ahoge and everything.
>>
>>144139904
Basically the author spent the whole chapter building up that she never married Nishikata

>She looks at her school album and sees Nishikata
>"I wonder what's he's doing now"
>Daughter looking at photo album
>"Is that daddy?"
>"If only"
>Husband comes home and you don't see his face
>"Were you crying?"
>"No, just tired"

Then she give the smuggest look ever in OP's picture and you see Nishikata's name on the wall. Her kid's "Is that daddy?" when you don't have NTR on the brain is because there was a knock on the door from a delivery man
>>
>>144141823
At some point I got the vibe she was pretending Nishikata died.

Also, this basically means the good end is all but confirmed.
>>
>>144141823
This chapter made me feel like Nishikata himself, in a way.

If that was the plan, kudos for the author. I felt legitimately emotionally trolled.
>>
>>144139421
>And in the fucking last page, you can see the face of the damn person reflected in the damn manga at that very scene.

Agreed, the last page feels like the author himself is giving us that ultimate masterful smug face like "hey readers, I teased you like a bitch, and now I'm licking the tears you let fall in this page. fuck you! ahaha.wav"

This guy REALLY knows what he is doing with this manga, that much I'm pretty sure of. This was one direct trolling to the fans faces.
>>
It's a shame they didn't translate the line in the end, it made the chapter 100% more juicy trollish
>>

If you want girl teasing a guy, try Henjyo. If you want to scream at a computer screen for the characters to just fuck already, try Kaguya Wants to be Confessed To.
>>
>>144142994
I don't usually see it in manga, more in video games where it's easier to betray your expectations.

I just want to say, Henjo kind of sucks.

I must admit the childhood friend introduction kinda ruined part of the experience for me, but, like, as far as we got (chapter 28), the author developed pretty nicely the relationship between the main characters imo

The age difference didn't matter too much for me, so I guess that's that too.

Not only the ending, the story is about 100 chapters long and nothing at all happened after the 30°.
It wasn't even slow, slow implies a constant forward momentum, the story basically got resetted to starting point with the start of each chapter.

Anyone have that wall of Takagi-san smug faces? For scientific purposes.

The only reason I can come up with is that he got replaced by a doppelganger at about episode 36.
Up until that chapter they the two were steadily growing more intimate with each other, petting, touching, staying close, having dirty dreams about one another etc. etc.

After that, the nothingness. Any sort of physical intimacy forbidden, not a single mention of anything before that (the infamous ear licking part), no progress of any sort and the guy refusing himself to kiss by the end.
Meanwhile his best friend was already tapping glasses-kun.

The nameplate works at making you understand that's actually the Nishikata's household.
Takagi's smug could be, possibly, interpreted as simply her closing the door with her usual happy go lucky face.
But then you read the line and realize that she's actually truly smugging you, the reader, and everything clicks aparts.

It's not really the same without the line, whether it was intentional or not the end result of the chapters is 200% better with it, at least for me.

Summarizing the ending won't mean anything if you don't read it, but all the plotlines were tied up, characters were paired off, all that other shit. Eh. The supernatural elements were a false flag. The mystery was something else entirely.

As to the rest, it was made clear from the beginning that in the relationship between the two of them Urabe held power over its pace. The reader was more than forewarned. He was hit over the head with it with a dual page layout.

>Remember that part about Tsubaki's going to be her first sexual partner?
We can assume that's sill the case, since Urabe at the end of the manga is resolved to become Tsubaki's wife. Which need not be depicted (or intimated), if the intent of the manga is to conscientiously avoid gratuitous physicality. Which it was.

>Or that other part where Tsubaki's touch "changed her senses" and made her have wet dreams about him? Remember how they'd started getting more and more intimate with each others, physically?

>Well the author doesn't, or at least completely forgot by about chapter 40 onwards.
Which is not to say there weren't elements of more subdued physicality, or that these ceased beyond a certain point. Putting aside the allegorical device that the couple had been swapping spit the entire time, Urabe gets naked for Tsubaki on a couple occasions, licks him, is comfortable being seen by Tsubaki in a wet dress and so on. The idea that she became a frigid bitch is ridiculous, forged by anons grown frustrated that the manga wasn't breaking from its design.
>>
>>144155515
Establishing a firm relationship dynamic from the start is fine. Establishing that relationship dynamic, then centering all dramatic tension on a struggle to subvert that status quo that ultimately goes nowhere, is just frustrating and borderline Kafkaesque.
>>
>>144155828
>if the intent of the manga is to conscientiously avoid gratuitous physicality. Which it was.
If you want to write a story about a romance that doesn't immediately become physical, here's an interesting idea: don't make the entire story about the impending nature of physical romance. Don't include a key plot device that involves literally exchanging saliva to establish a relationship. Don't make the main character openly desperate to win any sort of physical affection from his girlfriend. And for the love of god, don't include a scene where two attractive women strip naked in front of the MC to compete for his affection.

Fuck, I can name at least five romance manga off the top of my head that avoid gratuitous physicality. Know how they do that? They don't make their entire plots and all of their character motivations involve physicality. They probably don't even do that on purpose, they're just stories that are written competently by people who aren't masochists.
>>
>>144155828
>We can assume that's sill the case, since Urabe at the end of the manga is resolved to become Tsubaki's wife. Which need not be depicted (or intimated), if the intent of the manga is to conscientiously avoid gratuitous physicality. Which it was.

>Which is not to say there weren't elements of more subdued physicality, or that these ceased beyond a certain point.
But they did. Everything that they do or happens in one chapters is never brought up again by the next ones. Nothing changes, new experiences fall flat on their own 18 page long chapter and never are seen again, there's no progression or change in their relationship AT ALL past the first 36 or so chapters and even the little things they achieved are forgotten.

Meanwhile MC's best buddy is actively going out with his girlfriend, growing intimate, openly dating, showing affection, kissing and whatnot. Tsubaki got the short end of the stick.

I wasn't seeing it; rather, I saw that I was looking into vignettes of a stereotypical platonic relationship at different stages. Then again, I wasn't subjected to the threads by which the readership came to your opinion. I only picked it up after the anime aired, and for the most part tried to steer clear of the threads because its hatebase had already turned them its shitflinging fests.

I can easily see how that happened, though. The sudden shift from single, stand alone chapters into lengthy back to back arcs would have been trying to get through on a monthly release pace.

This word would apply to a literal interpretation of the manga as a depiction of a true to life romance. I don't hold that's what MSX was. I mean, they start as 2nd year high-schoolers, have 8 years worth of interactions, including numerous seasonal changes to show their relationship in different settings and at different stages and conclude the manga as... 2nd year high-schoolers.

Time, integral to progress, has literally come to a stand still.

If you followed the manga you should know that there was a steady advance in their relationship for the first 30-35 chapters who suddenly came to a halt after the Idol Arc and never resumed after that.
That's got nothing to do with the premise of the show, it's just the author hitting a dead end and not bothering to find a way out to keep going.

Including becoming absolutely wedded to first impressions, and not deviating from them at all, even if challenged by later reveals. The point that time has no value to this manga, which (incongruously, perhaps) might only be perceived OVER time, should leave an impression, and inspire the reader to reevaluate what he's been reading up until the point of this realization, but sometimes it just doesn't.

Which MGX never did. In fact it confirmed them by ending the story with everything at the same point it started.

For fuck's sake they don't even trust one another, whenever Tsubaki is hiding something Urabe immediately steals some spit to know what he's feeling. There's that chapter where Tsubaki refuses to try tasting his ex-crush's spit because he feels their "bond" is a special thing and doesn't want risk ruining it, yet Urabe has no quailms sharing her spit with Oka and that other school boy just for testing.

Their "romance" is laughable and the idea of keeping it utterly platonic eventually fell flat on its face. I only wish the author ended it sooner instead of stringing us readers along for 8 years without delivering anything.

Is it something like this?
>>
>>144157696
>For fuck's sake they don't even trust one another
On the whole, only trivialized, fake relationships as found in fairy tales (or shounen manga) tries to leave the impression that couples should have an unquestionable faith in each other. But as I contend, that's not what we have here.
>whenever Tsubaki is hiding something Urabe immediately steals some spit to know what he's feeling
Urabe steeling Tsubaki's saliva in this case (besides its allegory throughout to kissing) is a plot device to get the pair, representative of a generic couple, to uncover what male and female viewpoints are on whatever issue is at hand.
>There's that chapter where Tsubaki refuses to try tasting his ex-crush's spit because he feels their "bond" is a special thing and doesn't want risk ruining it
trust issues, a recurring theme. Not that I remember the specifics.
>yet Urabe has no quailms sharing her spit with Oka
female only relationships being quite different that the interplay between the coupled pairing of male and female
>and that other school boy just for testing.
As I recall, she only had him taste the saliva, not the other way around. Which you can say is her way of shooting the guy down, or confirming in her own mind how much more valuable is her relationship to her boyfriend. It's been awhile since I read this.

>Their "romance" is laughable
Because it's not a romance. Not in the literal sense.
>and the idea of keeping it utterly platonic eventually fell flat on its face
Probably because the mangaka's aim of approaching matters of a relationship as philosophical discussion points went over your head. But then that's not the only level at which the work can be appreciated. At the very least, you can enjoy the independent chapters or arcs for the flavor of their setting, like looking for beauty in a woman rather than sexiness. Or at an even baser level than that, there's dem fine ass tiddies.

The fact is that I don't think there's anything I'm missing out. Up until about chapter 36 there was a steady development along the lines you described, then it got stumped by the Idol Arc and changed to a SoL status quo format that never changed. The manga ended like that, with the original premise abandoned.
>>
>>144159279
>Did I speak about unquestionable faith? No. Fuck off and don't put words into my mouth if you don't want to address my points fairly.
They have trust issues, then, as do most couples (which is a good thing if the purpose is to investigate what lies behind trust issues in general). Yet that's more a thing of the beginning, not towards the end. Their routine becomes more an act of volunteerism, used as a device to share what they're feeling, rather than a cheat of one steeling the mental images from the other.
>She still didn't have any qualms at using her bond on others, unlike that poor fuck Tsubaki.
As I recall, there did come a point that Tsubaki swapped spit with another. But as to the other random chad guy you mentioned, there was no bond. Just spit.

>Or she could respect his desire to keep that moment's thoughts private
What a novel way to avoid all the deeper aspects to this manga to which I've been referring all along. Might as well do away with the magical spit then, and tell a completely different story. One about a boy and a girl and how they'll pass from one stage of a relationship to another until they're doing the horizontal mambo.

Which leads me to wonder why you'd invest time in a manga that has "Mystery" in the title without questioning what that mystery was. Or pick up one that tells you right up front that there will be no kissing or sex, only to grow increasingly frustrated that there was no kissing or sex.
>>
>>144159279
>>144159736
>The fact is that I don't think there's anything I'm missing out
I think you're grossly underestimating it, for cause. Here I am pointing out symbology to certain pages, talking about allegory, and you don't touch these points with a ten foot pole, but do everything you can to ignore them to just go on restating that the only thing that's there is what you saw. Which only elicited more illustrations of my point, so there's a certain value to that.
>Up until about chapter 36 there was a steady development along the lines you described
Or you mistook the need to establish character dynamics and setting as standard introduction, and interpreted all the early interactions in a linear manner, ignoring all the signposts (and discounting them in retrospect) that sequential storytelling was not an important element of the manga. Whenever did calendar dates have a function at all to tie one chapter to another, as you'd typically have in such a story as you describe, even if you were to say the story early on was linear? Nowhere, that's where.
>then it got stumped by the Idol Arc and changed to a SoL status quo format that never changed
Or this is the point at which you lost patience, because Ueshiba, enjoying a steady paycheck, was stretching things out just a bit too much, ignoring that there already had been an earlier break from the stand-alone chapter format with the Cultural Festival arc.

>At least this is true. It's the story about a frigid girls who uses her special power to avoid building intimacy and a beta who's too desperate to do anything against it.
Missing out. In inimitable /a/utistic otaku manchild style, which is a thing this board also likes to do. It keeps the riff raff out. But that also shits on good manga when there's no call for it.

Wow, there's people who unironically liked MGX dead in its tracks pace and nothing ever happening style?

Hell even 4komas and real SoL seres showcase greater development than this turd did.

>What a novel way to avoid all the deeper aspects to this manga to which I've been referring all along.
You're contradicting yourself. First you say that the spit bond is meant to share each other's feelings and now you imply that forcefully mindreading the other's mind and private thoughts is fine too.
Pick one.

>Or pick up one that tells you right up front that there will be no kissing or sex
Except first chapter is literally Urabe stating that Tsubaki will take her virginity. If the author didn't want to bring sexuality into this he shouldn't have started like that and then continued with lots of other moments (breast groping, ear licking, wet dreams) but just kept it strictly platonically.
He didn't, and when readers got angry that the premise got denied and the advances resetted he's the one to be faulted, not the people who were tricked into reading a story he/she didn't have the guts to finish.

Dude you can say anything about MGX readers but not that we lost patience. We followed this thing for years despite its events having the speed of a glacier and yet always hoping, waiting, until the manga ended and nothing happened.

The only thing we're missing out is probably your headcanon. The story's here for everyone to read and it's undeniable that it stopped in its tracks after the Idol Arc.

It's not rocket science: we had a steady albeit slow development of a relationship which at some point stopped until the manga ended with nothing. It deserves all the shit it gets and if the author tried to do something "philosophical" and platonic... well he fucked it up. >>144153929

So that guy is just going to snap right? With a powerful back hand he slaps the scissors from her fragile grasp. Shoulders hunched up with aeons of masculine rage, he reaches out and takes Urabe by the throat. Pressing her body against the bridge's railing, he forces her into a long and angry kiss. "That's the ritual for today" he snarls.

Throwing the cold bitch to the ground, he leaps on top of her prone figure. He doesnt need scissors. With teeth and nails he rips Urabe's clothing from her body. "Still fresh," he remarks. "Must be because you've never been touched by a man before. Let's change that". Furiously undoing his jeans with one hand, he holds her down with the other. Then comes the rape. Vicious, hateful, he takes what Urabe owes him after years of dating. With interest.

When he's finished, Urabe is too weak to stand. Arms full of manly testosterone, he lifts her above his head and toss her body into the river below. "Now that this business has been taken care of, time to get a girlfriend who actually likes the touch of a man." He proceeds to fuck thirty highschool girls that year, and later wins the Olympic medal in whore beating.

Wow, yeah, if I were to resort to a logical fallacy here, that's most everybody. Or at least no one disliked it such that they wanted to go back and register a few '1's.

Headcanon is more a thing of those anons which says the story was going to be that Urabe was actually an alien, but that the story was changed after the editor influenced the mangaka without citing a single damn thing to back it up other than their distaste with the way the manga did go down. What I have is an interpretation that others won't want to entertain, because that implies they weren't being particularly perceptive on their first read through. Pride is a common human failing. Not solely my own interpretation, mind you, for I did hit up some of the threads where more in depth discussions were had as undercurrent opinion to the larger hate base, consistent of those anons still reading a thing they no longer liked because why ever drop shit once you start.

I don't get why people are impressed/surprised by this chapter. EVERY CHAPTER IS LIKE THIS.

Saw the ending coming 4 pages in, but seriously how can you not see this coming, at least I've confirmed a part of my soul still isn't in the gutter.

You need a bit of faith in your manga choices to be rewarded. NTR BTFO

>You're contradicting yourself.
No, that's you, to say the idol arc was some break in the pattern, when the cultural festival arc happened in the volume previous. the mindreading aspect is a device to move the individual stories along. I don't imply that its right or wrong.

>Except first chapter is literally Urabe stating that Tsubaki will take her virginity
Followed immediately with the establishment that it's not ever going to happen within the scope of the manga.
>If the author didn't want to bring sexuality into this
Whoever said there wasn't sexuality in this? The work largely revolves around it. This is a young couple in love, after all. Which is not the same thing as having sex. As before, there's a difference in looking upon a woman for her beauty, and looking upon her for her sexiness.

I;m out, though. Well past time I should hit the hay.
