We saw several flashbacks with Freyja standing against burning house. She probably lost someone too (especially since her parents are never mentioned in anime or manga). Mr. Birler was not an underlying mystery of Frontier. It's not like they were mentioning this shadowy owner of Frontier the whole time, he just was in the background. Also after he's introduced, he's completely inconsequential to the story to the point that he's not even in the movies. It's not the same situation as from the way Delta has portrayed it, Lady M is supposed to be something of an enigma, she's even influencing certain events in the plot like assigning them missions and slowing down the time for the nuke to go off. I'm another fuji and I have got to agree with you. Macross is for the het mostly and some yuri. If I want some homo there are other series. I think what makes the het appealing in Macross is that I think the female character generally are a lot more interesting than those in other series.

I love every Macross girl. Ranka is great because she matures from someone with zero self confidence into someone with enough conviction to go against the entire colony to do what she feels is right. For better or worse she's an idealist, it loses her the bowl because Alto wasn't her prince on a white horse she imagined him to be but on the flip side she achieves UNDERSTANDING because she was the only one who knew what the Vajra really were and she knew fighting them wasn't the answer.

I also like that Kawamori gives zero fucks about muh purity, harems and having female characters be completely devoted to the main lead, unlike in other series. For example, part of Ranka's character development in the series was getting over her crush on Alto, and it's confirmed she married someone else once an adult.

Sheryl had her fun moments. The date episode was great, but no one can match Minmay in terms of flightiness. One moment she's having an intimate conversation with Hikaru and two minutes later she's like "Hikaru? Oh yeah that pilot guy he exists I guess." Her kind of being 100% in the moment attitude does it for me.

She knows that Walkure can overpower Heinz, and that Windemere only has one wind singer. One possible plan is to remove the wind singer, for example by luring the knights away and then kill or kidnap Heinz.
Another is to remove the control over the ruins, but I'm not sure if Mikumo knows how to do it.
