You guys are missing his point. Both the manga and anime for CCS takes place in a realistic timeline of the late 90s. And uses contemporary stuff like brick cell phones and PS1/N64 game systems.
And CLAMP is trying to revive the series, only a year after the events in the previous series. While introducing technology from 20 years later. It would be like watching a sequel to Ferris Beuler where instead of using a boom box, he's using an ipod. But yet everything else is set in 1987.

I personally think its because the series is and was set in present era, and not in a timeless fashion.
The characters and situations are still the same, but the world they interact with is subtly different.

Actually, CCS just screwed over Tsubasa - assuming CLAMP has plans on establishing a strong link between both works.
In Tsubasa, Sakura giving her Star Staff to the resurrected Clone Sakura is an extremely important event, since it is what allowed Real Syaoran to travel to Clow Country.
However, in Tsubasa the Staff Sakura gave to Clone Sakura was her regular staff, there were no signs of the upgrade she just got.
If Sakura doesn't give Clone Sakura her staff, then the plot in Tsubasa cannot happen. So, we're about to reach an impasse.
