I disagree. The reason why the series is great is because it can balance pure suffering times with hopeful fun times. At that point, Subaru is still generally hopeful and the situation isn't as dire. When things dip into the emilia situation and the julius fight, its a great lead in to the sufferfest because you had the mansion arc where it was just him solving a mystery and building the Rem relationship.
Without those episodes Rem wouldn't have been as loved, and Subaru's edgyfying wouldn't be as fun.

Subaru tries to give Rem a rest day. He divides up all her work between the manor residents and they all get to work. But Rem is worried and checks on everyone. Beatrice and Puck use their magic to do the laundry. Ram and Roswaal somehow manage the cooking. Subaru and Emilia try to clean, but Rem's usually so good at it, that there's nothing to really clean. Subaru suddenly realizes he has to go do something and runs off to the village. Rem sneaks off after him, wondering what he's doing. It turns out he was checking on the barrier because he was still worried about the villagers, especially the kids. He and Rem decide to check on it together, and it ends up being something like a date.
