The greatest masterpiece of the past decade.

A perfect fusion of cute characters, powerful music and sharp animation all come together to make one of the most loveable and believable cast of characters ever comitted to film.

Admit it, episode 20 and 24 made you cry
>>
I almost fucking cried at the end, and I didn't even cry when my grandpa died

Episode 20 and their last performance were good but I think watching the credits at the end of the movie was the most painful part. Not only because I knew that there was no hope for more K-on but because part of me knew that it was for the best to end their story there.

I recently bought the BDs for both seasons and the movie.
I rewatched it all over a couple days and now I'm left feeling even more depressed than the first time I finished it all.

I also ordered all 6 volumes of the manga so hopefully they'll arrive soon and make me feel better.

They will won't they?

K-on is a really strange show. The first episodes don't really make such big impression, but little be little the characters make their way into your hearth. Their lives are not very exiting and nothing particularly amazing happens to them but the show as this familiar, warm feeling that draws you in. And it makes you happy but before you realize the end is near and you wish they could stay in that simple yet happy place that is the club room.

But they don't. They move on with their lives leaving you behind.
>>
>>144067586
I forgot Houkago Live was also on the PS3. I emulated it a while back.

Heck, or even just a quick TV special showing the girls as they are now, now that they're all 25.

Nah is the opposite. Many SOL shows today put more effort into the moe elements plus fanservice. Now I don't think that this is a bad thing because I also enjoy those shows but I pointed out because in K-on the moe is there but is not the main attraction in fact some people think that K-on is not as cute as other more recent shows. Also the fanservice in K-on is minimal.

>>
>>144079039

That also doesn't make them similar. NNB is more comfy whereas K-ON is more moe.

>>
>>144078874
Its not the songs themselves that's great, its the emotions behind them.
>>
>>144079430
Having different types of humor does not make them so dissimilar that they can no longer be meaningfully compared. They still have significant differences, but not ones so large they fall into wholly different categories.

Also they aren't similar just because they are both SoL, but because they are both SoL they share a number of genre tropes. There's a reason genres exist.
>>
>>144079283
Just because the music is simple in composition doesn't mean it can't be good either
>>
>>144079730
The genre SoL isn't very specific. There can be a lot of differences. SoL shows don't even need cute girls or anything like that, it can be a completely different show. Also shows can have multiple genres besides SoL which makes them even more different.

>They still have significant differences, but not ones so large they fall into wholly different categories.
I didn't say that. But it's not like shows are very similar because they fit in the same category. That's like saying every action anime is very similar even though the plot is completely different.

I think it's pretty obvious if you've watched both NNB and K-ON that they're not trying to be the same thing, and they aren't.
>>
>>144080024
They aren't trying to be the same thing, but they're trying to be similar things, using similar styles to evoke similar emotions using similar tactics. It's not just that both are SoL, if you removed all tags the shows would still be similar
We can call it the CGDCT genre if you want to be somewhat more specific.

The point is that K-on became a huge success that broke records not only in BD sales but also the OST sales. And all of this without relying on fanservice, melodrama or shipping.

The thing many people don't get about K-On! is that it wasn't a show about music, it was a show about friendship. Five girls who meet by chance and over the episodes grew a unique and irreplaceable bond. And it felt natural, their friendship wasn't forced, by season two you already knew they were best friends and were willing to do anything to help their friends.
>>
The last episodes were brutal.

When they realize that wast their last festival.

When Azusa starts crying and begs them to not graduate.

When they sing tenshi ni fureta yo to Azusa.

It was surprisingly good. Although it annoys me that people cannot describe without using the word "cute". It's so much more than that, and that is why it was good.

It's not. It's not bad either but the characters are all flat and the show depends too much on repeated gags.

I actually agree with this. I really liked the show but the yuri scenes were annoying as fuck

The day after finishing my k-on blurays,
the depression still hasn't subsided.

I only like SoLs where there is some kind of progression, like K-ON, Aria and Natsume Yuujinchou (these anime have elements like characters being developed, new characters being added and the passage of time being explicitly shown).

Does anyone know more anime like that?
