Here's a hint, anime industry and it's tendencies right now, kind of fucking terrible and in the process of a minor implosion due to being stretched to the limits of it's resources and ever diminishing talents. Don't expect things from an industry that appears to be spinning around in place with no sense of direction or internal quality control and you can't be disappointed or angry. The visuals were just one part bad about it, the audio, in particular how the power metal kicks in whenever Guts does something badass really made it feel like I was watching some russian anime tribute or something. Really felt like they missed the tone of the series.

Berserk fan here. Just watched the first episode. Wasn't great but it has potential. I enjoyed the CGI in the movies since it was pretty good and there was also a great deal of traditional animation. I hope the rest isn't so heavy on CGI as the first episode was but I have the feeling that won't be the case.
Anyway, it's probably not easy to find a studio that's willing to animate something like berserk so I just feel glad that this exists. I suppose that so far that's the best thing that can be said about it, that it's better than nothing.

The whole skipping arcs thing was such dumb idea. Guts's character is so one-dimensional but also all over the place in the anime. Even for viewers who didn't read the manga, it must be weird to watch.
>Presented as a brooding, cool, very strong character who regularly fights monsters/demons/stuff from nightmares in episode 1, so obviously the viewer expects him to be able to withstand enemies even if he gets hurt badly

Christ, in the manga, after the Lost Children fights, he had cuts everywhere, was stabbed through his arm and his cheeks, probable suffered burns, and was already hit by a couple of arrows in his upper body before he was ambushed by the Iron Chain Knights. You could literally replace anime Guts with Jotaro Kujo and even Jotaro would have more character.
Hopefully the original story 3rd episode will flesh out Guts enough so that the viewers can really understand what he's been going through.
