Honestly this. I want to be on Subaru's side, especially when were watching from his perspective, but I can also point out problems with his personality that clearly affect his judgement. He's not mr. perfect which is good, which means he has room to learn and to succeed or to fail. And surprisingly, though there are times you can empathize with him, you can't really self insert as him cause al the things he goes to is literally something we will never experience. The pain of dying, the trauma of seeing your death and the death of those around you, and the mental breakdown as you see their faces live and about after seeing a tragic fate befall them mere moments ago. And the worst part is no matter what, he HAS to live through it, he's unsure how many times he can live, but who's also to say he can never die? Knowing your powerless in a world you with completely different from your own, stuck in a loop of horrific events, some people would just off themselves, but he can't cause bam, back to life again. Which kind of makes you think, wouldn't someone break from this eventually, like mind torn down and consumed by their emotion? The idea of pride that he wishes to become a hero is all nothing more than wanting to have self-worth. That is the fundamental of Subaru's character as he was a worthless person in his old world and willing to raise himself higher in the new world. Everything never went his way, the world does not revolve around him, each time he resets, he is losing his sense of accomplishment and what he built up (mansion arc) especially in that rant when Rem was torturing Subaru. That itself was nothing more than his pride being hurt. Self worth is a human trait that many people would want to strive for. Nothing particularly wrong other than being led to a sin of pride. He even sees Emilia as not really a human being but somewhat like a goal he set himself that is one-sided. And when he was in the massacred village, his thoughts were really like this:

You do not need to like him, the universe is already punishing him, and he demonstrates that shounen-cliches that he follows do not work and that he will face consequences no matter how many people will argue, "oh, time resets will fix everything! Why can't he use it?" Because it is not his power, he cannot control it, he cannot utilize it, it will only give him chances, but he will always be powerless within this world filled with absolute danger and the pain of death will be his deterrent.
