Evangelion is shit but not because it's entry level. The writing is shit and the visuals are pretentious. And even the moral of the story isn't anything special. It's just an overrated mess of lolsorandumbness + forced drama that pseudo-intellectuals masturbate to. That's why no one ever praises the core story of Evangelion. It's so unremarkable without its gimmicks.
