You know, I watched the anime's two episodes back to back and it was good.
Not good enough, but it was good.
I'm loving the OST, the percussion during the battle in episode two is killer, got my blood pumping (I love metal that mixes guitars with non-standard drums, like the taiko or big drums). Don't care for the ED and the OP manages to be more gay than that.
The sound effects, oh FUCK the sound effects. Dragon Slayer hitting metal is fucking gorgeous! That is how metal rings, not that bullshit ninja sword SFX.
Aesthetically, I wished things like Miura's many shadows that cover characters and display only their eyes (pic) were maintained intact, but the anime adapts them without the ominous shadow. I am disappoint. Can you imagine how shitty Guts losing his shit and howling like a wolf inside Berserker armor will be?
Wish the monsters and other aspects, like the demon fetus or the carcasses in the river, were not fully rendered in 3D and had the same treatment as the characters, because the dichotomy when they interact or when the scenes change quickly between the cel-shaded and normal models IS jarring. I don't understand how the animators didn't get this yet.
I suppose the budget isn't big, so I can't expect the animation to be Gurren Lagan movie tier but it does it's job.
As an adaptation, for these TWO episodes, I give it a 6/10. I'm not including Isidoro's early reveal because I'll wait to see where they are going with it but the lack of Apostles, the second encounter with the Godhand beind scrapped for no reason and demon elfs playing war being removed don't do it any favor.

Fear is actually quite effective. Once your enemy is afraid, they can't fight properly, and normal humans will hesitate to charge twisted hellspawn goblins.
Then, when you factor in the Pishaca and the Makara, which are nasty terror weapons, you can break big blocks of troops and then your cavalry and whatnot can run them down.

Like others said, varied powers. Look at some of the apostles in the eclipse. One of them is literally a horn with feet. Some are dogs. In the end it all comes down to willpower I think, the snake baron and count were nobility. Locus and Grunbeld are Knights. Zodd is a warrior. Other apostles were likely trash poor people who just got their hands on a behelit, and trash humans probably make trash apostles. They're too confident anyway, they're not protected by the layers like the godhand. Muscles and teeth do not make you invincible.
