Watching the 2006 Fate before Zero then UBW oddly felt better than ignoring it. It has bad animation but it's kinda alright as an adaptation of the route, plus the few added extras.

"Style over substance" describes pretty much everything about Ufotable perfectly.
I think the DEEN anime is actually a fairly decent adaptation. It pales in comparison to the VN and that's probably why it's hated so much but I think it's a better introduction to the series than UBW.
