Yeah, that's pretty much the only reason people seems to dislike it, and it's somewhat understandable, but it's not true, Kirino is not a bitch at all, the anime just skip too many content (like 4 volumes). I would recommend to read the LNs if you have time.

Subaru's kind of fun to follow because he actually tried to Naruto his way through like most protags but instead of suceeding it completely backfired at him. Episode 13/14 is basically him realizing this and he got pretty bitter about it, to the point where he started burning bridges with everyone.

Is not as much the characters as the invoirement too. Even if the MC is shit it still can be saw under better light due to the circumstances and the context while other characters whic are "better" feel terrible thanks to their series.
For example, Subaru is not a bad guy but the plot of the series make him look really terrible sometimes, Kyon is a terrible MC but is in an overall good series (with the exception of endless 8) which makes him look better.
