This anime is so stupid. I can't get over how they changed some of the characters like Schmidt. Schmidt in the novel was a greedy dirtbag who got into his position of power by backstabbing the prior minister. He wanted to destroy East Germany with nukes when he didn't get his way. He had a very bad relationship with Beatrix, who he continually harassed, either with sexual innuendo (Schmidt molesting Beatrix and her Werewolves shows up in a lot of their fanfiction) or bringing up Irisdina and her brother, implying that Beatrix was a traitor. He called her shit like "big breasted bimbo" or "stupid whore." He also tries to martyr or poison her at times. Beatrix, likewise, didn't like him very much, blaming him for the state of the country and allowing the rebellion to fester.
In the anime, they made them friendly towards one another, to the point that Schmidt made her the second in command, and Beatrix kills him because he was an agent of the KGB.

Well, he's pretty much an angsty teen who doesn't trust anyone. He's a shell, that much was obvious.
It's just in Episode 2 and 3 Katia comes out of nowhere and all of a sudden the emotions he disconnected (as evidenced by refusing to fraternize with Pham and frequently stating he doesn't care about the deaths/fate of others) burst through like a busted dam as soon as Gretel says "wow really makes u think" and he meets Irisdina. It took me 15 minutes to get through the 4 minute AA meeting between the two that really came out in bad taste.
Iris is a cutie though.

In Episode 4, Lise starts off as a really bad liar. She walked past the elephant in the room and willingly broke protocol when she hugged her brother, her salute just before was pretty gross as well (Funnily enough Katia saluting Kurt has been the best in the show so far). I really don't think she didn't see one of the handful of redheads present. I'll probably have a better understanding after the next 3 episodes.

Gretel somehow got more people for the "wow really makes u think" meetings and are convincing Theo that Lise is a spy. It's weird since Katia's entrance to the DDR is as Beatrix earlier said suspicious as fuck and these guys are acting like Lise appearing is somehow crazier.
