I just started watching int today; up to episode 4.
I'm digging the animation, that's held up well, and a lot of it seems good, but I'm really annoyed at the amount of time dedicated to this stupid school shit; does it get any better? What's the fucking nip fascination with school, anyway?

It's mostly establishing Shinji's character and his adaption to a ""normal"" school life while also being an eva pilot. They're quite important later on and it does get better after Asuka's introduction, IMO. I just finished the series like two months ago for the first time too.
