Free Trigger slots are filled with auxiliary triggers depending on what is needed for the mission, the loadout is just their base template that they always use. It was mentioned somewhere but I don't remember where.
It's not a good idea to fill up empty slots for things you don't know how to use properly, otherwise it might tempt you into using it and then fucking up.

No. It's really just a matter of practice, I guess. Keeping extraneous things on your loadout means keeping extra things in mind and if you're not prepared to use all of those odds and ends you might end up distracting yourself by thinking about what you can do rather than what you should be doing. Pretty flimsy reasoning but it's all I've got.

But that aside, we have seen squads prepping extra things in their Free Trigger slots. I'm pretty sure the loadouts listed in BBF are just the standard sets those characters use, the Triggers that form the core of their fighting style. Nasu made sure to remind her squad to load out with Meteora for their fight with Tamakoma-2 if I remember correctly, implying that they typically don't carry those particular Triggers around.

I've seen this claimed before, but is this ever actually stated in the manga? Other Optional Triggera, like Thruster or gen'yo, don't have any physical form at all. They're just things you can do with the weapon.
Now that I think about it, Osamu's Shooter-Trapper hybrid class is seriously amazing. If Osamu continues to improve his Trion, he could do some amazing stuff like using Viper and making a pattern that avoids his Spider wires. I would love to see him use Switchbox in the future too.

It is possible. ‘Pretending with Shield + Gun but actually Scorpion’ is one of the feints that All-rounders equipped with Scorpion (like Arashiyama squad) use a lot.
No conclusive answer I guess, but I've yet to see a Senkuu user not have a sheathe to draw it out from. If somebody remembers anything to the contrary I'd be interested to know.
