Speaking as someone who likes slice of life/CGDCT, I honestly found its comedy mediocre and repetitive and Umaru too unsympathetic (obviously shitty people can make great characters, but Umaru wasn't that funny either).

There's currently no new anime material out to be speculated upon, the manga releases are slow, and there's no dramatic story tension for now.

The only selling point was that Umaru was a sexy nerd girl. Couldn't be bothered to keep watching after a few episodes. The memes it generated were better than the series itself, BUT the way anon tried to steal Chaika's thing away with Umaru instead was a little upsetting so not even those really did it for me. I'll be glad when I stop seeing Umaru threads every day.

Ironically, I loved every girl except for Umaru. The show itself was deathly cute like K-ON, yet it had a tiny bit more of a story than K-ON. I will never understand people who watch this show seriously, I really don't think it was meant to be taken seriously. It's like a happy little pick-me-up when you feel like shit, not AotS.

l tried to read the manga and found it insufferable

The anime is fun and comfy with the right amount of sillyness to cheer me up without being overly mean. Colorful well defined characters with lots of different interactions.
The manga gets a lot better when we start knowing eberyone for real and characters actually start developing. I would gladly watch a second season but for now i'm happy with what we have.

Umaru and Ebina are cave man names.
Oh yeah forgot to mention. I like a lot that they avoided the annoying overused cliche of the siblings falking in love or having lewd thoughts towards each other. Umaru and Taihei have a pretty normal sibling relationship and i like how the show plays with the various kinds of sibling relationships (missing onii-chan, embarrassing onii-chan, idolized onii-chan, etc) among the cast. I hope this manga will never head towards incest between the main sibling duo. It will lose its charm instantly and become just another incest ecchi of the bunch.

I never finished the anime because I had read the manga before, and I just wasn't interested in seeing Umaru's original bitchiness again, just in another format.
I liked how the manga eventually managed to improve both Umaru and TSF; Umaru calms down a bit and becomes at least tolerable and often even likeable, while TSF eventually turns from a cute and silly running gag into a completely loveable and heartwarming character in her own right. The manga is worth reading almost for her backstory and the UMR+TSF chapters alone.
