I haven't bothered to learn many formal recipes. I tend to just throw things together that smell/taste good, heat them up until the smell makes my mouth water, and then eat them. Lots of stews and soups, pasta concoctions, rice goes with everything. Cooking is way less difficult than people act like it is.

Dishes I've invested time into making and learning a recipe:
Cơm Gà Nướng
Beef brisket Phở
Jap Curry
Cantonese beef-fillet steak
Katsudon/Oyakodon
Yakisoba

Dishes I can actually cook well:
Baked beans

In all seriousness I'm a shit cook when I do guesswork and shit, but I can follow a recipe pretty well.

>Jap Curry
This takes no real work once you buy the cubes. Even real Jap housewives use the cubes. The Japs have no appreciation for curry and I'm not even a pajeet.
>>
>people who can't cook

Get a good recipe book or two, preferably ones that aren't too simple. Cook things that look good. Cook every night. Don't get discouraged by the inevitable flops. Instead, think critically about why they happened. Mistakes are good, so long as you're always striving to observe and improve. They build intuition. Look up cooking videos for technique help. As you begin to gain a bit of a foundation, put the recipe book aside and experiment. Just throw things together than sound good.

You'll have a few tasty meals in your repertoire before the month is out.
>>
Gone from fatty to healthy weight once I started cooking my own meals. Still indulge myself with something like a nice lasagna from time to time, though.

Not Souma-tier but I like to stray from recipes on the fly when inspiration hits me with a way to mix things up a bit. At worst they're so-so since the way I introduced the new element(like peanut-butter pineapples) didn't pan out and at best I cause mild foodgasms. I love Szechuan cuisine, other Chinese food is meh to ok for me. A lot of Korean cuisine is spicy too, so I like that as well. Japanese food is something you have to be in the mood for. Sushi is nice when I want something lighter than those thick Korean soups with the bone in them. Other Japanese food like teriyaki aren't as good as the Chinese equivalents they originated from.

Good tea does not mean "Buy good leaves and make sure water is very hot".

That's fucking retarded anon. That's like saying "Buy good steak and make sure pan is hot".

Good tea requires knowing how to brew the leaves you're using. Temperature does matter, as does time, and depending on the leaves time will vary.

Some teas require you cover, some require steeping, some require cold water for fucks sake that can be heated after brewing.

Water can also matter, with tea it's worth it to use bottled water without chlorine.

How is it possible to be biased in your food tastes? This ultimately comes down to what you like. It's completely subjective.

Let's suppose that the scenario that you have in your head occurs: Someone is so infatuated with Japanese culture that it has the effect of making Japanese food tastier to them. That's still not bias.

Bias doesn't become a factor until something calls on you to be objective. For example, consider if someone were to ask people to compare two cooking tools of Japanese and Chinese origin that both serve the same purpose. In this case, which is asking for a more objective measure of how both tools will perform, somebody who's biased might choose to ignore or downplay some of the benefits of the Chinese cooking tool, play up the benefits of the Japanese tool, and then conclude that the Japanese tool is better.
>>

I never counted, I guess around a hundred different kinds of dishes, I can make pasta, bake bread, pizza and a lot of other little stuff.
Though I'm terrible with cakes, I can do a few sweets but god don't ask me cakes, I can do maybe two types and that's it, though I don't like sweets in general so that's probably the reason.

Though you might just want to know how to cook shit rather than recipes, it's uselss to follow recipes when you don't know how to properly cook meat, fish or other stuff and what happens to the stuff you cook.
If you don't know wheres's the difference in cooking meat or fish, or even between cooking a roast beef and a steak then you're not going to do much, the basics are more important than the recipes.

I eat a basic, quick-to-make delicious soup with varying taste profiles every day for breakfast.

The bread-and-butter one is just mixed frozen veg (water chestnuts, carrots, snap peas, mushrooms, etc.), peas, corn, spinach, and rice noodles. All in a chicken broth seasoned with copious amounts of ginger, red hot chilis, garlic, and a little bit of parsley. I sometimes throw in a leek or two in there too.

It's better when I use fresh ingredients, but I don't really care to exert myself in the morning. This way, it's quick, easy, extremely healthy, and delicious.

Who /stick whatever in crockpot/ here?
>>
>>143865980

We're talking about styles, though.

When a Japanese person makes some dough, spreads marinara sauce on it, covers it in cheese and pepperoni, and then pops it in the oven, it doesn't suddenly become Japanese-style cuisine because the person is of Japanese descent.

Are you one of those two idiots up above who always try to construe racism from everything? Do you go through life making everything about race?

By the way, the meaning of a word is whatever people of the era generally use it for, and it's really less of a question of if the meaning of a word will change and more of a question of when and how. As the English-speaking community's image of Japan became more positive, the prominence of racial slurs against Japanese also dropped. "Jap" more or fell out of use. When it was picked back up a few generations later, it was done so as a new word with a new meaning: the playful shortening that everybody uses it for now. It's not really an inherently offensive term that attributes any bad qualities to them, and it's close to what we'd call them normally, so it's actually a pretty progression for a group that talks about the Japanese a lot.

No, we do not need to feel sorry for racist thoughts that we didn't have, or bend over to any drama that attempts to find victimization where there hasn't been any. Stop being offended over nothing all the time. You'll be happier.

I took some cooking classes and I cook for my family everyday and they all seem to enjoy it. I basically just try any recipe that looks interesting or whatever others request. I'll try anything once. Cooking at home is relaxing stress relief for me and I like being the one to handle my own food.

The most difficult thing for me is stuff that is time sensitive like roux. Or croissant from scratch, actually most bakery stuff from scratch is my weakness though I love the results when it's successful.
>>
If you're new to cooking and want something simple to start with, make a curry.

Get a big pot, throw some oil in, high heat, stir around some diced onion/ginger/garlic (one full one and a teaspoon of each) and some sort of store-bought sauce (to start with, once you know what you're doing then play around with spices). After a few minutes, add some meat cut into thin bite-sized pieces still on high heat and stir that around until it you can't see any rawness on its surface. Then lower the heat, add either coconut milk or diced tomatoes (depending on what sort of curry) and some water. Season to taste with salt and pepper and MSG and also add vegetables of your choice such as capsicum broccoli mushrooms or whatever. Takes about 20-30 minutes to cook after that (add some vegetables closer to the end of cooking).
Get some rice and cook it according to packet instructions (or look up how to make amazing rice on youtube).

That's literally every curry ever. Done. As you make them you'll quickly learn how long you prefer to have each type of vegetable cooked for, and from there you'll have a great base of knowledge to use for other recipes.

By contrast, if you want a difficult recipe that's extremely challenging, try learning how to make Omurice. Omurice is insanely fucking hard to get right.

I made duck leg with wild garlic rice and asparagus for work this week and it turned out pretty nice.
Kinda rushed the duck and just fryed it rather than searing then roasting.
Didn't bother to make a proper sauce either, next time I will perfect it

Bologna is a type of Mortadella, however he is talking about this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bologna_sausage I think, which really doesn't taste at all like mortadella

Pretty much the way to learn any recipe desu.

His recipes for cooking rice, Shephard's Pie, beef wellingtons, and pork roasts are all phenomenal. The only thing I wouldn't trust Ramsay's advice on is omelettes, and that's only because he doesn't use the superior French/Japanese method.
>>
>>143863646
I'm only really familiar with about twenty recipes, excluding baked goods like cake and pies and bread. Usually when I'm busy I just chop up chicken or pork, let it soak in soy sauce-sesame oil-scallions-crushed red peppers, and then stir fry with onions or broccoli. Pile it on top of rice and you have a don thing.

Going to try Soma's mackerel burger this weekend though, I have a lot of canned mackerel that I planned to eat with rice and never used.

Anyway Japanese > Chinese > Korean. The only Korean dishes I really like are bibimbap and sundubu. Chinese is great, provided the ingredients are safe, though as >>143871962 said it's a very diverse range. Canton is best. I doubt most people on /a/ have had an adequately well-rounded exposure to what Japanese cuisine can offer.

Take a tip from Souma, you can make eggs in shittons of different ways
A pretty boring way popular in China is boiling it in tea instead of water, although you have to boil it for a bit longer. It gives the egg some flavor instead of tasting hyperbland.

I used to only cook fried eggs and make toast, also instant noodles, and consume like random canned premade stuff
I now cook curries of sorts, fried rice, soups etc, haven't really expanded my repertoire
I don't really bake, come to think about it. At least not all that regularly

>>143872435
If one's not tried good curry, they're probably going to love the Japanese roux blocks, since they're pretty damn convenient after all

If I had to give a tip on beginning cooking it'll probably be: always use onions and garlic and salt, never make a savory dish without a combination of o/g + salt

They are different kinds, by no means normal Mozzarella is second rate compared to Bufala, however the latter is a regional speciality of Campania that has a particular distinct taste that makes it very different to the norm, there are many other versions and many regions have their own, however none of them is like Bufala.

Also if you are interested, visiting Italy is not a thing to do in just one time, there is just too much to see and to eat and drink .

If I had to give a tip on beginning cooking it would be 'follow the recipe then mess with it for a while until you think it tastes good, serve it, puke because it was gross, repeat'. It's how I started learning.

Oh Jesus God.
You even posted a Looney Tunes cartoon and you still don't think "nip" is the MUCH older term of racism than "jap." There are older cartoons than that Bugs Bunny one literally called "Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips"

Jap is the newer term because it's lazier and doesn't incorporate the Japanese word for their own fucking country, but the western one.

I can do most basic dishes from Italian, German and Swiss Cuisine in different forms, And know a bit about seasonal and local ingredients. Aside from that I know a few Arabic and one or two more Complex dishes - pretty good for 25 I guess. Both my Parents cook very well and a lot of different stuff, they tried many dishes on me so its probably about how I was raised.

People commend me for my cooking sometimes and I'm pretty good at tasting the Ingredients from a dish - even though I smoke. I'm nowhere near the level of a Professional, but I know how to make a good meal out of fresh ingredients which is sufficient for me.
