Whenever Chapter Black starts, that is. Everyone fellates Dark Tournament because of based Toguro but it's too long and too full of filler despite its cool villain. Nah, CB is where it's at, in terms of animation and story.

To be fair you are right, the first arc is pretty dull.
Despite its slow pace i have a soft spot for the Dark Tournament arc
The anime' music is pretty good.
Manga takes a little longer to get started since the anime cut out a lot of the detective hijinx, but once you get to Toguro it gets good. Anime had some great OPs and EDs though.
