It was amazing. Remakes of old anime are almost always bad or tepid. Yamato 2199 was actually really good, as it took the things that made Yamato great back then and added more modern elements to it.

Well, the original was made while Japan was still licking those WWII wounds, so they probably needed a bit of NIPON STRONK to watch. As for the remake, I dunno. I came for space drama, and I got space drama with great T&A. Didn't pay much attention to the Nationalism.

It was mediocre, it was stupid (bad writing) how the guy who held Yuki captive decided to suddenly let her go and get himself killed, instead of making her be the only one to die. How convenient as well that in that same episode Kodai was able to find her floating in space.
Then there's also that episode were Sanada was about to sacrifice himself for the Yamamoto to be able to continue it's journey. Turns out he didn't need to as he just jumped into that liquid to not get killed from the radiation (?). That whole thing was just for emotional manipulation and for the writers to tell his backstory, so that'd we'd learn more about him and Kodai's dead brother.
