Yoh was inferior in terms of power for sure, but he was a far superior character (until Flowers, because everyone is a shitty character in that series).
HAO, on the other hand, was a really shitty villain, with a very juvenile motivation and all he had going for him was that he was OP. He pretty much is a power fantasy for any angry hippie. I cannot see how anyone but edgy teens and fangirls could like him.
