Rather than shitpost I'll post some speculation that came to mind while rereading CA, specifically Knuckle vs Gon.

So basically the theory is that Pap is an aura black hole. Remember how normal people were represented with aura leaking from them? They're as good as dead in the presence of this thing. The knowledge is having nen, more specifically a shield of ten, and being able to avoid the effect long enough to escape. There seems to be too few "pets" because only nen users are alive by the time Pap is actually encountered. Everyone else just drops dead long beforehand.
Consequently, this is one of the reasons nobody knows how to destroy this thing. Nen attacks are less than useless against it. Of course having nen still prevents instant death, so Don Freecss never saw and wrote about what it could do to normal people. That's why it was the first thing in his book that V5 thought they could take on.
