Saw Gunbuster a week ago, and my god was it amazing. I'd prefer it over Eva as a whole if not for EoE.

There's no reason to emulate old artstyles, at least for me. I don't mind the occasional moe SoL show but I do wish more good serious were made; whether that's made in an older artstyle or with a modern look (cutesy or not) doesn't matter as much to me.

Obviously there are other factors as well. But if the studio who's animating it were serious (clearly Toei just want the easy cash), the new one is always better than the old one. Just look at Parasyte or Ushio/Tora.
