I played the VN and I declare this a trainwreck.
Wtf was going on when they went underground, that isn't supposed to happen like that at all.
That and they didn't play music in a lot of parts and it was just silent conversations, or him talking to himself with no music so it just felt weird.
This is a trainwreck but for some reason I watch it because of how horrid all the other releases have been so far.

it isn't a disaster already? I think i blacked out for a few minutes watching this tripe. The mc is utterly detestable, and there isn't a single girl in the harem worth paying more then 20 seconds on for their intro alone. Terrible and annoying.

The anime is gonna be an original route anyway, the worst that could happen is it spoilering you the various routes while also getting you interested in reading the VN. It's a pretty nice VN, especially in comparison to the standard Key titles.

It's hard to say but Rewrite has a love/hate relationship amongst Key fans. It's completely out in left field compared to the rest of their novels but some people obviously loved it. I wouldn't say that there are a lot of Key threads on /a/ but Rewritefags always seemed very vocal in defending the VN compared to everything else Key did. Defending the anime will likely be a part of that as well.

One of the best points in VN is various strange things happening but its treated like normal and you subconsciously roll with it because MC does that too.
And then Leaf dragon appears and its fucking hits you its not normal at all and what the fuck where you thinking.

Spoiler-free Rewrite synopsis for animeonlyfags:
Rewrite tells the story of Kazamatsuri Bond, a 27 year old agent of U.N. Special Ops (UNSO).
Bond was an edgy kid, he enjoyed killing bratty children's parents in front of them.
He fought the terrorists of the Greenpeace conglomerate with every drop of his blood, no matter how many dinosaurs they had.
Both factions were fighting over a nuclear device called the Lock, which could destroy the world.
During one such battle Bond was defeated, and put into a coma because of the nuclear device.
Now at age 27, after waking from his coma, Bond decided fuck it and to enter school again, because he still looked like he was 17 from nuclear radiation.
Well he actually has amnesia as a side effect, but he just wants to live it up at school like he never got to.
He wanted to get a girlfriend, mess with his best friend, join a club, become a TV reporter and grope some girl's tits.
To get all of this, he joined a club where he reported on Paranormal stuff with the other members.
Little did Bond know, the members were all undercover agents of UNSO and Terrorist Greenpeace!
His childhood friend also turned out to be the girl whose parents he killed. Apparently she resurrected them into plant zombies, because she's a magical sage.
One friend is a UNSO top agent, one friend has a servant who is Bond's alternative universe self, one friend is literally worse than Hitler, and one friend is a walking biohazard.
If that wasn't enough, the Lock turned up again, starting another war. The Lock is actually a cute deadpan girl, with an obsession for Bond. She sneaks into his bed at night and haunts him.
To top it all off, Bond's blood is now nuclear residue which he can shape at will!
Now Bond must choose a side, but no matter what happens, the earth is fucked either way.
Unless of course he can become a tree, build a canoe with his wood, fly it to the moon and terraform it. That would solve everything.

Just watched the first ep, that was the most convoluted waste of time ever. The dialog was stupid as fuck, long ass monologues proclaiming your first and last name, really? Nothing happened and all the characters are grating. The attempts at comedy were god awful and if Berserk wasn't playing this same season, this would take the shit covered cake.

The only Key thing I've really cared for. I loved the first episode but that's probably because I know literally everything that's going on. I'd probably dislike it otherwise. If it stays as fun as the first episode I'll be happy.
I'm saying this as an anime-only faggot- I actually enjoyed the first episode and found myself laughing at the MC's antics. !Sasuke trying to act the role of the delinquent but being foiled by the MC was also fun to watch.
Only painful thing is how it feels like it really is a VN adaptation. The narration is jarring and doesn't work well for an anime. The opening scenes made me think this was some sort of post-apocalypse world and the MC is the last person alive but then I realized that it was just the effects of over-forestization, if that is even an acceptable word. Eventually, after I watch the anime I'll play the VN and realize that it is just as shitty but really, I don't know what you faggots are bitching about. It's a weirdly fun anime to go into blindly.
