Who is the best FeMC and why is it Watashi?

Also is it just me, or does the LN twist make no sense at all within the context of the show?
>>
>>143702514
I only enjoyed that show for the visuals. The story was confusing and not really interesting.
>>
>>143702636
I personally disagree. I think each mini-arc had a strong enough idea to make all of the episodes worthwhile. The over-arching story is really just peeling back the layers of the MC, so I suppose your investment is dependent on how much you like her. Well that and Humanity's slow decline. Time Paradog was pretty fucking confusing though I'll give you that.
>>
All I got was that the Harvest Sprites took over the world.

>Also is it just me, or does the LN twist make no sense at all within the context of the show?

What do you mean, OP?
>>
>>143703158
Everybody in the show were fairies. Shota assistant was the last real human left.
>>
>>143702514
Is Watashi an actual Japanese name?
Because I thought the implication was that there are so few humans left that even something as broad as "me/I" could be someone's name.
>>
>>143703278
It's because it's narrated in the first person, you dope
>>
>>143703278
No, it's not her name, it's just the narrative is written first person without her ever giving her name (at least not clearly).
>>
>>143703268
The little fairies were apparitions that the big ones had to describe their own power, explaining why the satellite girl couldn't see them.

At least that's my understanding.
>>
>>143703268
Well that's depressing, although not against the context of the story I would say.
>>
>>143703397
I've read that explanation but it really only makes sense for some episodes. Like the Island one, I can see it as a manifestation of Watashi's power. But others like the time management ones I don't get how its fits at all. It's funny, before I read the spoilers I didn't care about the explanations or world building at all but now I actually have to think about this shit.
>>143703446
It definitely re-contextualizes the show. The whole thing is just a gigantic farce.
>>
>>143703397
I've read the books and my understanding is that the big ones specialized to live as humans and the little ones are like a by-product specializing in what they cast out.
>>
>>143704137
So are the little-ones separate entities from the big ones, or are the big ones unconsciously controlling their actions? For example, the factory episode. The chickens ran away so the "humans" unconsciously used the fairies to create replacement food through their own ridiculous means.
>>
Why is this only half a good show?

Like the episodes that are good are so unique well the bad ones are just "Let's introduce some pseudo science fiction concept and do next to nothing with it?" such as the satelites and basically airing the same time travel episode twice.

Also why was everything told backwards yet not completely backwards?
>>
>>143703268
Wait what volume is this? I read till vol.7 I think and I have never encountered such plot
>>
>>143704395
I think they're separate entities (not just a representation of how the big one's perceive their power), but they are a manifestation of fairy power and the fairies in the first place have a kind of underlying collective unconscious.

>>143704921
Vol 9
>>
>>143704468
medias res narration is useful when there's no clear message by following the story linearly
>>
:D
>>
What was her actual name? Someone said in a previous thread that Watashi used to be called Margot or something as a nickname and supposedly her name is Margaret. I don't think I am remembering properly, can someone confirm?
>>
>>143705401
The name マーゴ (Margot or Margo) comes up in the last volume and it could well be the narrator's name, which would make sense as it would fit things like the what "K" (a character in the last few volumes) calls her being given as "M-san" and be a joke on 孫 (mago, granddaughter), similar to how the 助手 (joshu, assistant) turned out to be called Joshua.
>>
>>143704940
Did you read it in Japanese? I'm not sure where I can read these novels in English.
>>
>>143705994
Ah, I see now. Thank you, Anon. Kinda sad it's not a derivation from Margaret, Margaret is a cute name.
>>
>>143702514
Can we never use the term FeMC ever again?

I'm white straight male and it triggers me

There's some people who have no name that will always be called FeMC
Watashi fill the bill too

The LN was still being written when the anime was made, so I think airing the stories out of order was made in order to turn the school flashback (originally in volume 5; volume 6 which had the manga plot from episode 3 was the latest one at the time) into the climax, which is why you have the very first story in the books turn into the second to last in the anime.

Doujins between them are really heartwarming. One of the few that actually have something going for them.

It would be nice to read doujins made with the final volumes in mind; Assistant starting to speak normally, their developing relationship after the end of the main story and the like.

Probably not gonna happen without a new anime or something, though, and, well...

Grandpa came up with the idea once the cat was out of the bag and told her to "take responsibility and do something about it", but later says in a letter that he respects their own opinions in the matter (though he still wants pictures of any possible great-grandchildren of his).

Their relationship seems to be heading towards that direction regardless, however.

>>143702514
Don't you mean wataSHIT
>>
>>143711998
How long would it take me to learn Japanese enough to fully read and understand it?
>>
>>143713213
Light novels are painfully difficult to translate. Much harder than manga. I studied Japanese in college for 3.5 years and was only able to translate Wolf and Spice at a horrible 1 page per hour. I ended up giving up on that.
>>
>>143713213
I've been at it for ages and I still think I'll have to re-read more thoroughly it in a year or two once I've improved some more.

Romeo's writing is notoriously difficult to translate well (according to people I assume know what they're talking about) but if you just wanna read and follow along with the story the difficulty drops a fair bit.

I want a Nakata compass that points to magnetic north

>>143713115
That's overboard, but she's still far from best outside of this series.

Not really imo. Romeo's Jintai prose would actually be relatively easygoing to translate into english. Vocab requirements are higher than the average LN and LNs are already much higher than most manga in terms of that but if you can read it and can write good prose in english, then his prose would actually be pretty enjoyable to work with.

>>143713213
If you're dedicated, a few months.
>>
>>143715546
If it's so easy, why don't you do it then?
>>
>>143715640
Because already I'm slogging through the mild mindbreaking experience that is the prose of Mizusawa Yume's Ore Twintail ni Narimasu series.

Imagine having to translate a page full of idioms, turns of phrases, ambiguities and unique dialogue styles for each character that make it very easy to tell who's saying which line into any other language besides english. Got it? Now try to picture that in the mess of a language that is japanese and that the author has a thesaurus fetish that covers archaic outdated kanji and rivals Nisio's. I love the series but goddamn if it doesn't make me want to smack the author around for deciding to write it the way he does.
>>
>>143716167
All that for such a shit series? You must be dedicated.
>>
>>143716167
I haven't seen that but I thought it was a comedy series, why is it written like that?
>>
>>143716272
The author writes some really, really good scenes and dialogues. Plot is a not so standard goofy sentai but his writing still manages to be quite engaging as difficult as it may be to translate. The anime simply did not do the 2nd and 3rd volumes justice.
>>
>>143702636
Dude the story was an amazing social commentary.
>>
>>143702636
>story was confusing
What was there to be confused about?
>>
>>143716432
For as much flavor as possible I imagine. It's rarely ever dry but I honestly can't tell if this is good by the language's standards or just incredibly messy.
>>
>>143716167
Do you do it in your free time, or do you get paid for it?
>>
>>143717065
If I did this professionally I'd get paid much less than what I get paid now.
