I think the answer is The Heart. There seems to be more heart in Natsume than in this, at least in their respective anime (haven't read either manga). The bit about the youkai just wanting to be loved felt a little forced to me, whereas the youkai backstories in Natsume always felt more natural.
In any case, I'll keep watching, just because I eat this sort of shit up.
