This show has very beautiful backgrounds. I didn't read the manga so here's my guess what's about to come.The reason why Kakeru ditched school is because he has a terminally ill disease. Naho falls in love him, and vice versa, but they can't be together because of his disease. Love triangle ensues, drama, etc. You can already tell this show is going to be filled with FEELS.This is a shot in the dark, but maybe Kakeru find out there's a surgery that can 100% cure him, but his family can't afford it, and Naho tries to help him financially but can't she's too busy with school and her parents find out and forbid her from helping him.

1. The one married is in the future alternate dimension, they are just sending pointers on saving kakeru to one that in the younger one. Since the future alternate dimension only had the information until the reunion and grandma visit, they know that both people like each other and play it on that to at least stabilize kakeru probably. Its not like there wont be any conflict later on.Hell kakeru, might do it again since timeline branches and shit when information changed. If anything need to be definite, is to show kakeru can stand alone, who knows what will happen next to him.

That garbage has just as much melodrama as any shoujo. It's completely by the books except the brooding male the MC lusts after is a girl instead.
The issue with the "letter from the future" is that person writing it actually doesnt "know future". They know their own choices and outcomes, but they dont and cant know results if they did different choices.
For example, in this episode, when she decided to join the baseball game - she could have missed the hit and experienced regret of having their team lost because of her.
Making different choice is by no means making "good choice", regret or not - especially considering the butterfly effect of how it affects future.

I did read it. There is never any development that shows why they might be friends other than the sports festival. Kakeru is obviously horribly depressed and doesn't try to let them close to him.
The fact that they don't know jack shit about him before they embark on their EPIC quest to "save" him only makes it worse. Orange is a terrible depiction of friendship and how suicide and depression affects it. It's about a grand mission to "save" someone without any awareness of who they are as a person, and then somehow getting close along the way. The only character who remotely seems like they genuinely want to be friends with and help Kakeru is Suwa, but who really knows how he's feeling when MC's actions are completely different from her narrated thoughts and obsession with her microactions causing him to jump off a fucking bridge.

I'm getting ahead of myself. Regardless for what you said earlier, I know there doesn't need to be any, but it makes the whole experience feel cheap, especially since they're too worried about creating this cloud of happiness and relief from his home life to make any of their interactions with him feel genuine. The fact that Kakeru's depression is used as a plot device for the other characters to not have any regrets about giving him valentines chocolate or giving him the opportunity to have a relationship with a girl frustrates me.
The only highlight out of Orange was that Kakeru ended up letting himself be loved rather than being healed by the power of Knights in Shining Armor.

Oh shit, it took me getting halfway through the first chapter of the manga to realize that I read this a year or two ago.
I remember thinking it was pretty decent, but not amazing. Pretty sad, but a kind of heavyhandedly sad.
Anime looks pretty good though. Artstyle is a little different, but the manga was shoujo as fuck in its visuals, so this is a welcome change to me.
