Nah man. Objectively the best years of 4chan was when it was big enough to have multiple boards populated with their own little subcultures but small enough to have its own massive sitewide culture that allows said subcultures to interact with each other without much hitch.

Hilariously enough, this actually applies to the internet back then too.
>>
>>143633354
So, how long after your initiation to 4chan was that?
>>
>>143633343

The Fappening. This decade's Chanology. Brought in waaaay too many newfags /and/ almost bankrupted the site.
>>
>>143633686
>>143633721
Cheers for answering my question. All the buzzwords, internet celebrities who benefited from this shit and newfags aren't even limited to 4chan. The heavier prominence of 4chan probably lead to"ironic" humour being kinda OK to repetitive dogshit.
>>
>>143633790
Are you the same anon who thinks irony led to 4chan's demise? The concept of "ironic shitposting" didn't originate in late 2014.
>>
>>143633753
>le
You're not fucking french mate, step it up sempai.

But the excuse of ironic shitposting and the subsequent death of self-moderation originated there.

When I speak of death of self-moderation I should also say that there has been an amazing improvement on that front. We're almost back on track.
>>
>>143633814
No but I don't entirely disagree. I'm not saying ironic shitposting started in 2014. I'm saying that prior to that, internet ironic was less repetitive and derivative, more creative and more appealing to myself and anons who are more liked minded. I know the last part sounds pretty pretentious, my apologies.
>>
>>143633918
4chan was on the steady decline balls-deep into shit for many years beforehand. Many people people argue that 4chan has been irredeemable shit since 2009/2010. It's not as if 2014 was THE kickstarter year where everything that could go wrong went wrong. Yeah, sure, the Fappening didn't help but things were in bad shape way before then.
>>

>>
>>143634025
It's a fairly-repeated consensus, to a degree. For the record, I don't personally buy into the whole "4chan was shit from the beginning" argument. Besides, you're doing the exact same thing as 'evidence', and to be fair, this is the first time I've ever seen somebody claim that 2014 was the boiling point. Sounds fishy.
>>
I for one am glad we don't have the eks dee pissed my pants pasta posting anymore
>>

Why do you think you're watching TV? This is /a/. On the internet.
>>
>>143634105
>It's a fairly-repeated consensus,
Not to my knowledge.
/a/ usually speaks of the great increase in traffic that happened with Code Geass as the start of shit, or 2013 when the grammar nazis lost the war.
>>
>>143634073
What's wrong? Don't you like it when people think they're knowledgeable and believe that their opinion matters?
>>
>>143633980
My point is 2014 is the irredeemable shit of the irredeemable shit. The year made more waves on the internet and the mainstream media more than ever. I think the only comparable events are Chanology and Clinton's emails.

That being said the irredeemable point varies for different people. The late 2000s and earlier 2010s were a weird but enjoyable time on the internet for me with the late 2000s being the better of the two.

>>
>>143635611

>>
>>143635483
The main problem is it's too regulated and monitored, the wrong kind of people have actually leanred a little about it with the passage of time where before, I'm talking late 90s early 00s, computers were for people in their 20s and 30s. There's also too many normalfags on the internet now with all the social media shit and places like reddit, used to be a higher ratio of weirdos, and the normalfags just used MSN for a few hours after school.

Back then manga didn't get taken down, the government didn't control shit so tightly etc. It's kind of a overly dramatic comparison but it was sort of like the wild west and now for the last few years we've been in the final closing of the frontier phase. From here on in it's going to get a lot worse.
>>
>>143635483
Sometimes the internet isn't serious enough. I've made posts about shitty ironic memes itt so I won't repeat them but I understand you in wanting the goofy old school kind of fun.

Did it involve a cave? Maybe I'm thinking of something else.
>>
>>143635611
I'm not personally interested in saving it but it's there if others want to finally view what was discussed. Thanks for delivering.

>>143635623
People are too stupid to understand what satire is, too, even after having it explained to them, even further if an obviously-satirical post was present. Newfags take every post at 100% face value. It's embarrassing to observe.

>>143635672
You're probably thinking of the guy who either died in the cave, or the more popular story about working in caves. I don't recall specifics right off-hand though but I'm sure I understand what you mean, too.
>>
>>143635658
It's the same as with everything. First it's kinda cool and everyone involved gets it, then a bunch of people come in after it gets popular who abuse and fuck over the system because "It's not against the rules" and shit all over everything and then stricter moderation is put in place to stop those people from doing that, involuntarily destroying everything that made it fun in the first place. This happens with everything community-related eventually, be it on the internet or elsewhere.
>>
>>143635658
It has nothing to do with the government and everything to do with the mainstream culture and cultural zeitgeist

I guess you could make an argument about shills and disinfo tho

the internet and to some extent /a/ as well has entered an Eternal September long ago

>>143635672
it kinda sucks when people's initial reaction to any joke is to judge whether the joker is 'trying too hard' or to check if its well received first

The Fappening was the celebrity nudes leak back in late 2014. >>
Whew lad.

As much as I use to love sex with middle school girls, the last 20 years has made them go crazy as fuck and they don't look at you anymore. They just close their eyes. You see them again and again and they just go blank. Probably dreaming of cell phones and candy.

Middle school girls aren't worth it. Their head is messed up with electronics and no outlet for their hormonal changes.

It's like this right... this 6th grader, back 15 or so years ago wanted a tomodachi or whatever those keyring pets are. We fucked, said she wanted it. Gave it to her with some beads. Gave her the pet thing as a present with money. The guy managing our session knew me for years. Then she wants me to bring her steak and shake next time. So I do. She didn't want to fuck the next time even though she had to and I got her food. She lied to the manager guy about the electronic pet gift. Called me horrible outright. Literally two hours later she appears at my work saying she didn't do any of the things that she did right in front of me and the guy like I'm some idiot and chooses to believe her own story and wants me to hire her again for sex in the future so that she can get something... I forgot.

They are just not logical. If I wasn't so nice and understanding of her fucked up brain, the wrong guy would beat the shit out of her.

Stay away from middle schoolers. They aren't even that good of a fuck. It's best to get the girls before the change and before they are indoctrined by society to believe that sex with someone who will do nice things for you is wrong.

Not him but /r9k/ used to be my home board. It's a glorified newfag containment board by all means now but it sure doesn't have the most direct Reddit crossover. /soc/ would be the closest thing we have to a subreddit and other larger boards have more direct contact with that website, like /v/.

2013-mid2014 was the age where all newfags who were not autistic enough to come to hobby boards like /a/ and /k/ went to /r9k/ to cry about tfw no gf and how they were depressed losers while their crush got fucked by chad thundercock. this was when pepe was actually used normally

/a/ is too small for its speed.

I like threads with a low number of posters and with as low post rate. They are relaxing and you can look at them once in a while during work (or if you're not a wage slave, while trying to reduce your backlog).

Threads used to last for days. But today, threads can die in half an hour if there is no new post. This leads to endless bumping without new content, which ruins the experience.

Why can't /a/ have 100 pages?
>>
>>143636965
It's useful for when I'm visiting other shitty boards that I'm not familiar with. Naturally, I know all the /a/ memes just from lurking, and you should too.

>>143637102
I think you're on to something there. My favourite threads now are the ones with about 20 anons in them on the topic of some not very popular or well known manga that we all happen to read. There might be a few posts a minute or there might be a post every half hour, or longer. You can leave it and come back, then reply. When those threads get good quality posting they're unbeatable in my opinion.
>>
>>143636931
it was noko you shit, you had to have it so you won't be kicked out of your own thread after posting
>>
>>143637104
it's different tho cos the things i wanna ask about tend to be super niche so if I post the thread there is a very high chance that there'll be 0 replies

But sometimes I feel like the site itself runs on people making question threads these days

I feel like less threads are being made as people stick to their safe spaces i.e. generals and those that ARE made tend to be really generic

A great example of this was 2012 - 2013 when every single thread on /a/ had almost the same opening text "Why is this allowed" "now the dust has settled" "I had high hopes for [anime] but it keeps getting worse and worse" which got so annoying to the point that I saw some people filtering specific keywords
