well i'll step in for a moment. Goku and his family are basically a parody of the typical, suburban Japanese family. In Japan the father is gone almost 16 hours a day, working to support his family, he rarely sees his kids, and on the one day off the husband/father has he usually sleeps or just does something for himself, so he barely knows anything about his kids or the finances of his own household, his wife handles all of it. The crazy thing is, this is how a Japanese family has operated for at least 5 decades now. Its actually a standard.
Is Goku a bad husband and father? yes he is. But its understandable. If you look at the history of Dragonball, Goku usually has to play catch up whenever a new big bad appears, generally his time to catch up costs millions if not billions of lives. This is why Goku is so obsessed with training. Because he no longer wants to have to play catch up whenever a new big bad appears. It actually makes sense.
Also Vegeta isn't much better, but Saiyan males in general aren't good fathers. Its part of their culture and its probably genetically ingrained by now.
All in all, Dragonball is a action comedy so get over yourselves.
