I heard this show was either love it or hate it.
I'm on Episode 5 and it's pretty comfy.
Sure a lot of the animation didn't age well and the whole premise has been played out since, but I really don't get why there's so many vocal haters.

8/10, would be a 10/10 with better production values.
14 years later it's still the best trapped in a video game anime. Which says very little about it's quality.

>unresolved ending
Yeah even if production values were amazing it still couldn't be 10/10

Why is Tsukasa such a manlet?
It's a lot more melancholic and slow paced than people would expect of an anime about/tied with an action RPG.

>"Hey, Wavemaster! Look in my face when I talk to you, shit-heel."
What did she mean by this?

I thing Log Horizon did it a little better just because the world actually feels and functions like an MMO with people always gaming the meta.
The fact that WoW dropped since Sign came out really changed things
There's really not enough action for lots of people. It's basically "People stand around and talk to each other: the anime."

Well, .hack// is based off of Phantasy Star Online, rather than more standard MMOs

It works great in conjunction with the games, but it doesn't really stand out by itself as all that great.
