I think that manga/anime with a huge female fanbase constantly have better girls than harems and similar things aimed at guys. I don't know if it's because otaku have shit taste and like the awful design, if it's because you need "girls for otaku" to be liked by a lot of potential buyers so you make them more generic, or what else.
