At the point when Imoka blew off his arm, the lingering realization sunk in, that Biba suffered from the same paranoid schizophrenia as his father. The thing he labeled "cowardice".
So he could keep slaughtering people, but he'd never feel any better about himself. So yeah, he saw something in Ikoma he would never be, but he never stopped being a selfish piece of shit.
I dunno, I guess I expected to see epic fight with the black smoke creature, so the whole last episode felt a bit weak. But that's my fault.
I would give the series a 7/10. It has pretty good animation and unusual visual style/setting, but the story is kinda crap. The fist part was alright, since it was so ridiculous I could enjoy it for that. Then Biba appeared and the show went full edge, taking any fun out of the series.

5/10 I enjoyed the final episode but only because the biba arc was finally over. I actually hope this gets a second season. There is still a lot of potential particularly for the side cast. Ayame has turned into quite the strong but she really doesn't get much screen time to show it off. If this was condensed into a one or two movies and was the start of the series it would be quite good.

Biba's whole deal is that the strong and fearless will always outlast/defeat the weak and fearful. Biba realises that Ikoma is basically fearless and totally selfless, so essentially what Biba percieves as the human ideal. During their fight Biba actually admits that he has cowardice in him (I can't remember the exact line, something like "so now you see a coward"), and so when he actually beats Ikoma he can't accept that because it's essentially a fearful man beating someone who is fearless, which would derail his entire life philosophy. When he's walking at Ikoma he's all mad because his entire worldview is being challenged, so he's desperate to revive Ikoma so he can continue fighting and beat him. He gives him the white blood in a frantic attempt to get Ikoma up and fighting again because he can't possibly accept that he'd lost.

He sees his dad, the whole shogunate, and most humanity as subhuman because they're selfish cowards. He want to purge all that shit and go for (I assume) a pheonix from the ashes type deal where only the strong remain. Yeah, he's fucked in the head and it doesn't actually make much sense logistically when you think about it (seeing as killing humans obviously makes it much harder to beat the Kabane), but that's his mission regardless.
