Ikoma's arc is centered around the death of his sister, for whom he felt responsible. His story is about overcoming that guilt and saving Mumei, who acts a proxy. The use of the stone to help do just that helps to bring his story full circle.
Mumei has the most development of all the characters as she goes through a process of deprogramming the Darwinian propaganda that Bibi had been feeding her.
Biba is hurt and lashing out against a world he feels betrayed him, and justifies it to himself with his Darwinian ideology. He doesn't truly believe in it in his heart, but without he struggles to cope with his own fear which he identifies as an inherently negative trait after seeing the way it crippled his father.
Ayame's arc is incredibly simple, but good nonetheless as we see her progress from a sheltered child, to someone capable of effectively leading a nation.
Kurusu's arc is about his relationship with Ikoma, someone he doesn't accept even before he becomes a Kabaneri. His is also simple, but still clear and good.

On another note this anime was a giant waste of time. Literally NOTHING happened and we're back to the end of the first episode interms whats happening with the Kotetsujo. I would have felt better had Ikoma died instead of them sequel baiting for a sequel I doubt's gonna happen.
It's a shame as I started off liking the series but Biba and Mumei's muh brother bullshit were literally the worst possible things to happen with this show.
