What did this series offer besides a slightly calming atmosphere? Nothing. This anime is basically garbage and a slice of life done incorrectly. I dropped it at episode six and started Squid girl and I honestly don't think I've ever made a better anime related decision in my entire life. Anon, I liked Flying Witch myself, but I really don't see where any development occurred. There was no conflict to push the characters anywhere. Chinatsu just experienced/learned some facts about witches every now and then as Makoto trained offscreen to ride her broom and learned some new witch techniques. They acquired new information, but nothing about their personalities was exposed in these easygoing settings beyond general amiability and a trope here or there. I'd hesitate to say they developed.
It's more that everything you needed to know about the characters was presented to you within the first few episodes. Then you got to see how they react with those trait sets in various settings. Their personalities and outlook on life did not have any significant changes beyond more interest in witches.

Eh. I kept seeing people praise it, and I see people praise it even more now that it's over, but it really wasn't anything special. It was mostly just boring. And no, not all SoL shows are boring, but when the slice of life is lifeless, it's a snoozefest. I like the animation, and the OP has a charm to it, but there were better anime this season. Well, one at least. Macross delta may have some flaws, but it was otherwise very well done. The music of course, especially the OP which I think is OP of the season, The Top Gun jet dueling, the girls, who were better and more interesting than the girls in Flying Witch, and the characters in general.
I know people like Flying Witch, and I can sort of see the appeal, but I think one of the reasons /a/ like SoLs, apart from the therapeutic aspect, is that by doing basically nothing, they avoid fuck ups. This way the anime can be said to be flawless. But that mentality is itself flawed. Not trying is just as bad, if not worse, than failing. The anime therefore IS flawed because it didn't try. It just was, it sat there and existed and showed people performing boring acts and occasionally attempting some kind of extremely low energy humor. So, while it has no other flaws, the biggest flaw in a SoL show is that it doesn't try at all. Though, I suppose it would make sense that /a/ likes best anime which don't try at all, because it reflects themselves.
tl,dr: Playing it safe and doing nothing is a flaw in itself, and is much worse than having a flawed but fun and exciting show.

Akane at first came across as the confident successful older-sister and only turned out to be a potentially rowdy and disruptive character later on (as she became more comfortable with the idea of treating that house like a home). It was one of the more interesting and natural character changes in that series imho.

Your opinion is addressed to people who think Flying Witch is good because it 'lacks flaws'. I think Flying Witch is good because it has characters who are both easy to empathise with, and fun to watch the interactions between. It's the natural and subtle way in which their interactions and development occur which allow Flying Witch to be a very immersive (and consequently relaxing) experience. That, along with the beautiful art and soundtrack, is what I most liked about it.
I don't think it's flawless. Episodes 4 and 5 were pretty weak in comparison to later episodes, and it spent too long gradually introducing various characters, but I still think it's an 8/10 overall and one of the best shows of this season.

Literally the first episode where I felt like absolutely nothing is going on and the could have cut the episode altogether and nothing would be lost. It's not like other episodes are much different but I didn't feel like questioning what I saw in any other episode. I can't even articulate properly why was that episode as bad as it was. Maybe they went overboard with meaninglessness of actions in this episode, I don't really know.

I watched all 12 episodes, but i have to agree.
Other than a bit of healing there wasn't much that was interesting and the witch universe doesn't feel fleshed out at all, just something to pull from to come up with new stuff, and the more fantastical episodes like the one with the earthfish and flying whale i didn't really like that much, because compared to the first episodes even that felt a bit out of place.
I watched it because it's the only thing this season that kept my interest whatsoever, and i was enjoying myself for the most part, but it doesn't even come close to actual good SoLs. It's a solid 6/10
At least it wasn't as garbage as pic related. Holy shit this season sucked so bad, can't believe i only finished 1 chinese cartoon. That's a new low.

This season was pretty great with OPs in general. Flying Witch had an amazing song and the animation was pretty cute in the OP.
Flying Witch was the saddest I've been about completing an anime for the longest time.
