You clearly haven't watched the movies then, or are looking at the 2016 anime CG with a bias against it. The CG in the anime looks like it KNOWS its a CG anime, and at least tries to go for a certain artstyle with it in a loose attempt to pay homage to the manga. The CGI in the movies looked like the kind of thing you see in the background of low-budget anime in order to save animation time, but instead those throw away models were thrown up close and in your face, but still lacking everything in terms of model / texture detail, animation quality, shading, etc.

I've been meaning to read Berserk for a long time (I admit I waited until I heard he got off the boat, took longer than I thought). Only read up through the Eclipse and continuing along now, but I was curious if Guts ever ran across Gambino's mercenary band again. I can't quite picture a bunch of mercs not realizing a guy named Guts with a giant sword is the same little Guts with a big (for his size) sword that killed their leader, and try to go after him. They seem too small-time for any on-page confrontations beyond his back story, but I was wondering if I was wrong.
Today is the day that will ruin Berserk threads forever here on /a/, mark my words, and this just because some shitty ass adaptation.

Dude was shown to be pretty hardcore when he and Guts tagteamed against Zodd, and that was one of the few times we actually saw him in action before that point (the other notable one was when he made Guts join his crew). Setting up that scene so that we see it from Griffith's pov and that he believes- and gets the audience to believe- that he has a chance is a pretty good way of adding even more tension to the scene, even if in retrospect there really was no chance of Guts losing
