I have been thinking a lot about it for some reason and in my opinion i think that the charm of Log Horizon comes from the fact that it manages to go in depth within MMO politics without overusing its videogame theme. While SaO somehow managed to overuse its videogame theme while not actually getting off the shallow gameplay aspect of videogames.
