How can a game for kids in kindergarden be too hard?
Yesterday,here in Tokio, I saw an elementary schooler reading Owari no Seraph LN spin-off. People here normally use book covers, but that kid probably gave no fucks.
Anyway, that about shows how much of an achievement is being able to read LNs with no assistance. Although I bet 99,9% of people here can't do that.
Today I did 267 new cards, the most I have ever done by a fairly wide margin. I hope never to break this record.

For Jintai you'll need to be able to handle a bit more than typical LN vocabulary(Low N2-ish?) and be accustomed to turn of phrases. Download the RTK PDF too, it contains names for the "primitives" that the koohii website does not. I don't recommend RTK as Heisig prescribes it but if you learn the component names then the mnemonics can be helpful when you need them. Just make sure to verify the "keyword" is actually accurate by looking up some common words the kanji is in.

Thank you for the advice, I know reading is incredibly important. I read Hanahira already and started on Flyable Heart, but got frustrated with not knowing the kanji I saw everywhere. I decided to do this so that I would not have to deal with the annoyance of looking up new kanji very often at all. In hindsight it probably wasn't the most optimal route but now that I'm so close to finishing, I might as well do just that.

You have to know the rules to understand. I took a class on grammar in college and a lot of it was learning terminology. Most people could identify a grammatical error and fix it on day 1 without knowing technically why it was wrong. This is because we spoke English our entire lives and were already fluent. A bad idea in general because translations are full of mistakes and you might just end up reinforcing your misconceptions. If it's a translation by a professor in an official publication like in textbooks, readers, and novels then it is fine, but then you'll be very restricted in the level of available material.

If you have such significant problems you should be reading something easier or with more context. You should be able to make good educated guesses with the help of rikai and occasional grammar lookups. You should not be making completely random guesses based off of the pictures.

I always had similar worries about whether or not I was reading something correctly. An english translation exist for what I'm reading now but even then I don't know how directly they translated the work. It got me thinking about an interesting project. on say a weekly basis someone picked a short story or short piece of text and had a whole bunch of anons read and translate that text, making note of specific grammar points. The person could then compile those translations, discuss/support certain points, make notes of certain mistakes and turn the text into a small sort of grammar text book. I'd be nice for picking out common mistakes and could cover a wider range text. If the there were more natives we could also get some insight on some slightly nuances that can make it hard to completely understand certain text.
But it was just a thought. In reality I don't think it would work out quite so smoothly. There's probably proper text books that do this as well (albeit with easier less varied text)

Is this your first time traveling? Just because the airport is in Tokyo doesn't mean you walk out right in Shibuya. Been ages since I was there, but I'm pretty sure there's at least half an hour to Tokyo Metropolis from Narita. And even then you need to fix a temporary visa to even be allowed out of the airport.

Because Japanese words are not composed of smaller pieces that you logically construct or decompose. Japanese vocabulary doesn't work that way.
The kanji "meanings" are nothing more than mnemonics that usually help you remember the meaning of the words they belong in, but other than that there are no rules for it.
You can learn all the kanji in the world and still not be able to read shit. That's why we say not to waste your time just learning nothing but kanji by themselves. You absolutely have to learn vocabulary and that's what you should put most of your effort toward.

Like I said, if it's a word then it's a word.
But there are no actual rules of the japanese language that involve taking that kanjis chinese meaning and doing something with it.

I don't really have a problem with kanji study if it's like what you're doing, since you're obviously getting benefit out of it (the ability to write), and you're not neglecting the other more important parts of learning Japanese at all.
It's the people who don't have as much free time as you, so the kanji study cuts into their reading time, or the people who put off starting to read actual Japanese texts while learning all the kanji individually, that are crippling their own learning.

Can nips truly read as fast as TV shows display subtitles, or are they just helpers for listening + reading at the same time?
I say that because to this very day I still press pause a lot to read subtitles in MY OWN language, and when I haven't the option to pause (i.e. in a public screening) I put a massive effort into listening and only use subtitles as a general reference.
I can't fathom fully digesting the same amount of text but with a 3000+ set of symbols to sort through.

I was a bit thrown off by the words being puttogether like this every other line, but that didn't interrupt methat much.
Fun fact: I can reach 120 wpm when typing, so I believe 153 wpm is a slow-ass reading rate.
It must have to do with the fact that I'm very careful with everything I read, my retainment is pretty high.
I remember seeing my colleagues learning to read back in school and I would get flabbergasted by their attempts to GUESS words instead of finishing them by the book.

I know firsthand that plenty of native speakers have difficulty reading normal-speed subtitles of foreign-language media. And if you put on Tatami Galaxy subbed for an audience of native speakers I would bet that 90% of them would struggle to keep up. This isn't a good thing, really, but it's the fact of the matter.
Now, I'm not saying you shouldn't try to improve but don't feel bad about your reading speed as it is, it's quite decent especially for ESL.

my awareness couldn't slip for a moment and my choice of looking at subs or visuals had to be highly moderated

I've read at least 300 pages per week from 10 to 15 years.
After that I kinda stopped because Internet, but I mostly use forums and I oftentimes read wikis and whatnot, so I keep somewhat sharpened and I'm not usually around jewbook or other illiterate-ridden ambients.

This is also true for me. My metronome is probably around 240 wpm somewhere. 360ish is the most I can manage while still reading comfortably.

This is very true. I speed-read the Alice in Wonderland sample at 693 wpm just now using that method. I understood most everything, only missing the line "She took down a jar from one of the shelves asshe passed" with the marmalade, so it was certainly effective. But I don't find it very enjoyable to read that fast, a slower cadence is much nicer.
