Grimgar was only good for 3 episodes when the formula was fresh. Between the nothing happening and the 2 minute music videos with QUALITY animation it got tiring after a while.

Grimgar was a Fantasy world though not a game, is not different from Escaflowne or El Hazard, when it comes to setting at least I mean, its parallel world, not mmo, is not even "game becomes real" like Overlord or Log Horizon.

I don't think nowdays fantasy anime are worse than old days fantasy anime, If we talk about quality I think they are pretty much the same.
It's just they feel completly different old fantasy anime was mostly about characters traveling through some kind of quest, while nowdays fantasy anime are more "static" the characters are allways on the same place and the events come to them.
They are different in that way but that's all. If someone thinks old fantasy anime had less cliche characters or more solid plot...well, its just noltagia talking.
