It's possible, in fact it's likely, that Kubo let her be there so she could actually help Ichigo in battle just a little like she always wanted after failing to help him for the vast majority of the manga. She did that and now she's being tossed aside. Like Chad but with a smidgen more dignity.
Sakura got similar moments in the final battles of Naruto. They did not make up for her horrible portrayal in the rest of the manga.
