As someone else that was never able to watch the english dub as a kid, thank god, I watched the subbed 90s anime first since that's the one most people know of, and then I went on to read the first two storyarcs of the manga, then move onto the 3rd season of crystal.
There's other stuff like the live action sailor moon series, or pgsm. There's also the musicals which are pretty great, too.

I will admit,i'm unfamiliar with whether they started season 2 right after the first one was done, so I guess that might be why people were scared. But I mean, if they were able to make this season with a higher budget, have a museum, and a cafe after the atrocity of the first two seasons then it's safe to say we'll be going all the way with this series.
It probably took forever for season 3 to come out because they actually put in effort into it. If it takes that long for the dream arc, i'm ok with it as long as the quality is the same as what we've been getting with this season.

Yeah I knew crystal might've not been good when I first saw the designs for the first two seasons years ago, and the first two seasons proved that.
But man, am I glad I decided to give this season a try. This was an amazing ride, and it got be back to being a sailor moon fan again.
I'd really suggest trying it out if you're familiar with the story lines of the first two seasons.

S1 Crystal is pretty bland in the beginning. You can tell it's trying to please both the older anime fans and the manga-purist crowd, and considerably failing at both. Having an artstyle which isn't as distinctive as the older anime and not as good as most others doesn't help it much.
It finally does start setting its own pace and becoming good, although that's halfway through S1. Probably episode 7 or so.
S2 is pretty similar to S1, although with less time fucking around because it's not trying to be the older anime anymore.
Haven't watched S3 yet.

It's been awhile since I read through the manga, but I don't think so. The Dead Moon Circus arc is strangely vague to me, where both the Black Moon arc and the final arc were much clearer. Dead Moon Circus tended to focus much more on Helios and the Earth-stuff.
Oh, and all the animal companions becoming senshi as well.
A quick pagethrough of the manga (the most recent English #10, if you have a copy) indicates that it probably does not. Saturn seems to just confront the Amazoness Quartet, before getting sucked into a dreamworld like everyone else. Then again, perhaps it was a page or two I missed - I was leafing through quickly, and the Sailor Moon manga does have some confrontations which are over quickly that take up more time in the animes than pages in the manga. Still, I doubt it happened. It was more likely a "cool filler" part for the first anime.

Nah, the manga was far more focused on what it was doing. The anime loved doing its little dramatic posing and side-arcs which ultimately went nowhere. Sometimes it was good, but a lot of time it was just wasted.
I mean, that scene is almost exactly the same as the end of the Death Busters arc, just with exceptionally lower stakes and somehow Saturn's power is a lot less impressive. I mean, you're going fromSaturn telling Uranus/Neptune/Pluto to put up a barrier so that only she and Pharaoh 90 would die, while Sailor Moon/Chibi Usa go full power to save Saturninto this, which is just Saturn threatening to make a big attack.

Sailor Moon is the de-facto powerhouse of the group, even if she doesn't beat everything easily or immediately. The others aren't as strong, although some of them have talents that can still trump Sailor Moon's. Pluto is the guardian of time and can Time Freeze, something which pretty much overrides anything Sailor Moon does. Saturn is pretty much the same way. She's not particularly impressive, but her special is basically a hard reset for the entire planet/system/galaxy: it kills everything and causes them to reincarnate in a later life.Although you'll find out the last bit isn't related to that power.Saturn doesn't have that much power to freely throw around - she hangs out with Chibi mostly, and doesn't smash stuff like the Outer Senshi - but her special ability is basically the "Fuck Everything We're Having A Do-Over" trump card.Saturn was the one who nuked the Silver Millennium after Serenity fucked up and Usagi couldn't pick up the slack.
She only tried using her power twice in the manga: once with a plan to contain it so it doesn't murder everyone (Death Busters end), and once at the end of the series when everything was fucked past recognition. Having Saturn just casually toss around her power cheapens it into a big, damaging attack. The way the manga handled it, Saturn dropping her glaive meant EVERYTHING was fucked and we'd be done, since not even Sailor Moon would be able to fix that back together.
So yeah, Saturn's power trumps Sailor Moon's. But it's not a simple DBZ power level, either. She's not out-leveling or out-multiplying Sailor Moon. Her attack just screws everything past the point of fixing it.

That's not entirely true. Codename: Sailor V implies that Sailor Venus/Kunzite at least was canon, and Jadeite mentions finding Sailor Mars attractive as well.
I'll give you that it's much more emphasized in Crystal than the manga however.

I can agree it does give off that impression, or at least the manga. Naoko said it herself that the manga was made for women, and that the anime had more of a male perspective to it. It's basically a shounen anime that was covered in pastel, and sparkles.
In my opinion, it's like the anime version of the PPG (I already know PPGZ exists, but i'm talking about cultural impact it had in Japan, like PPG had in America). There's probably as much male fans, as there are female fans. They're just too afraid to admit it.
Also, Sailor Moon threads have their fair share of people waifu worshipping the characters.
It's only natural for a show filled with yuri subtext, and more women than men though.

I'm gonna be honest it's probably my favorite season out of all of them. The filler was fun, and I actually found the relationship between Chibiusa and Helios to be quite sweet.

That's definitely true. As a matter of fact, every single guy I've known who watches/watched anime actually loved Sailor Moon as kids, some still like it but don't want to mention it because they get embarrassed about it.
At least in my country, that happened because, during the time we got Sailor Moon here, we also got Dragon Ball, it was a very heavy merchandise competition around here and, culturally, Sailor Moon was THE show for girls and Dragon Ball was THE show for boys for a very long period, there was no other way.
I actually happened to enjoy both because my sister always made me watch Sailor Moon with her whenever it was on.
