i think it's because the action in GK is just too intense and it overpowers the SOL elements. the SOL elements being average also doesn't help his cause. there's also no in-story reason why they would suddenly focus on /ck/ details and ainu lore to the extent that it does. thos sections always come rather sudden to me.
i wish the author focused on it as an action manga instead. it's not bad at all though, still a very fresh feeling manga. just not perfect.

I don't get the praise that this one gets. It's just a really shallow story about two cliche manly MCs lacking any sort of depth who can do everything effortlessly, yelling about how shit old people are. That's it.
There's stuff running in WSJ that has more nuance than this. There are series that does the "manly guys doing manly things" type of story better than this too.

Dropped it 50 chapters in, the default reaction emotion of each character seemed to be being smug and it got annoying (especially since it was always drawn with 2 panels of the same portrait only the 2nd panel was somewhat zoomed in). The characters were really lacking in characterization and I just couldn't care for a single one (though the dumb but charming yakuza was at least a bit likeable).

i never thought i'd say this about any manga but that's just a weird ass topic. 70 pages into it and i still don't know what the deal is with this one.
I have read like 90% of all the manga you people have posted here, Berserk still reigns supreme. If I had to pick 5 more however I would probably go with this in no particular order:
-Onani master
-Eden
-GTO
-Vinland
-Planetes
They are simply the ones I have enjoyed the most, not really talking about ita pros and flaws.

I'm guessing he just scanned the thread quickly and didn't bother to check any of the charts posted, which account for 90% of the manga ITT on their own. His list screams low powerlevel.
I don't know if that makes me a memer or what by /a/ standards, but I genuinely think ore to akuma no blues to be awesome, definitely better than a lot of shit out there. I wish the translations were faster, but I can see why they take that much time.
