A guy who often makes panels at conventions in my city made a list of his favorite short anime features. I don't recognize almost anything. I want to know whether if it's good or not, his full-feature one was pretty pretentious and artsy:

1. Phantom Ship
2. A Feather Stare at the Dark
3. Muybridge’s Strings
4. Wonder
5. Franz Kafka’s Country Doctor
6. Broken Down Film
7. Briar-Rose or The Sleeping Beauty
8. Noiseman Sound Insect
9. Kujira
10. Jumping
11. Mt. Head
12. House of Small Cubes
13. On Your Mark
14. Shashinkan
15. Open the Door
16. Rain Town
17. Coffe Break
18. A Child’s Metaphysics
19. Ginga no Ursa Minor Blue
20. Little Witch Academia
21. 0:08
22. Trilogy About Clouds
23. Tales of the Street Corner
24. Sakura
25. Crazy For It
26. Odoroki Ban
27. Glassy Ocean
28. Watashi no Kao
29. The Bathroom
30. The Old Crocodile
31. Chirico
32. Nice to See You
33. Hana to Chou
34. Midnight Parasites
35. Kataku
36. 2005: A Space Odyssey
37. Yume 10 Yoru
38. Mermaid
39. Kumo to Tulip
40. Bavel no Hon
41. Doujouji
42. Furiko
43. Death Billiards
44. Kumo no Ito
45. Perspektivenbox
46. The Moon that Fell into the Sea
47. Speed
48. Mizu no Kotoba

It sure is a list of short anime features.
I've only seen like 15 on that list though.

Most of it must be very artsy stuff, but there's some great ones in there.

I liked Aquatic Language much more than Time of Eve, even though I understood less of it.

Time of Eve I know, but it's not on there since it's an OVA.
>>
Most of these 10-15 min shorts aren't really that good. Artsy shorts are just a lazy faggot's way of trying to build up a list of supposedly DEEPshit they've watched that gets bonus points because it isn't well-known. There's good reason most aren't well known, most aren't actually that good.

Often they're not bad either but nothing to set the world on fire, as there just usually isn't enough running time to really do much with such an approach.

They're by the same director. I think Aquatic Language was one of his first commercial works. They're similar in concept but executed differently and tackled slightly different themes, I think.

He also directed Pale Cocoon which was a quite exceptional short, though apparently not enough to make your friend's list.

It is on his ova list, I see Kotoba is classified a a special but I don't really know what that means and how it's different from an ova.
>>

Shorts are for people who enjoy experimental animation, not for faggots that think narrative and themes are the end all be all of judging the worth of something.
>>
>>143302848
Then why is Little Witch Academia on your list? How the hell is that experimental?
>>
>>143301674
Anyone know where you can get a lot of these? A good number are available pretty readily, but I'm not finding where you can get things like Phantom Ship, A Feather Stare at the Dark, or Noiseman Sound Insect unless I want to download them off YouTube in terrible quality.
>>
Dude listed like all the shorts that are even remotely known. Just judge his top ten.
>>
>>143303125
Not my list, and it's experimental because it was specifically intended to showcase new talent and was part of the Anime Mirai project.
>>
>>143303125
Probably because Death Billiards and LWA were the only two Anime Mirai shorts he actually bothered with.

Feather Stare is in the Tsuji Naoyuki collection.
Noiseman is easy to find.
Phantom ship is probably tucked away in one of the many animation anthologies on nyaa.

Appreciate it, feel like a retard for not finding Noiseman, didn't think to check anywhere but nyaa. Guess I'll just lurk around and try to find the rest.

Found it.
It's on Oofuji Noburou: Kokou no Tensai
