The regular manga is honestly worse than the anime, but it does a great job showing Basara's time in the village. Basara is pretty OP, but he's afraid of his powers going out of control so he places limiters on himself. Banishing shift can only be used as a counter attack when Basara has his limiters active. Banishing shift only becomes OP when it's used offensively, and that can only be done when Basara releases his limiters. Brynhildr chose Basara as it's master, because it was incredibly weakened and needed a host in order to survive.
