How did they fuck up a Devil May Cry anime?

Thay didn't
>>

I remember it fondly. Had a bumpin' OST.
>>
Same director as the new Berserk anime, by the way.

I've watched something pushing 80 shows now, and the DMC anime is still hands down, the worst one I've watched.

>Dantard is lazily stereotyped to be American, has obsession with pizza
>Tries to go all morals with "road rage" and other feel good bullshit
>plot looks like it was injected with prune juice into Pajeet's curry infested rectum, at which point it was projectile shat onto a large wall, with the directors running with whatever juice/shart encrusted words stuck to the wall, coherence be damned.

If it was any more disappointing, it would be my love life.
>>
>>143200498
They made Dante into a generic broody type instead of the cheeky badass that he is in the games
>>
>>143201082
>80 shows
As if they quality of your post wasn't enough evidence of you being new
>>
>>143200498
it was not crazy enough.
dante was not crazy enough either.

only thing i liked about is how lady got to meet trish.

Well, it was set between 1 and 4, which wasn't even out yet. And DMC1 Dante wasn't really crazy, so I assume they based his character on 1.

As to OP, I don't expect DMC1 or 3-level scale events for anime. It was alright for what it was.

>>

I enjoyed it. Soundtrack was great.

>>143201164

I think his personality made sense. This was DMC1 dante. In DMC1, Dante made some jokes here and there but he still seemed like the broody type.

It wasn't until the later games 3 and 4 that they made him into a cheeky badass.
>>
>>143200498
it was episodic and the battle scene are lame shit as fuck. totally a dissappointment considering the amount of potential. fuck even vergil vs dante scene is more anime than the anime itself.
>>
>>143200498
No stakes. Dante was never challenged even once until the last two episodes so he was bored and apathetic as I'd imagine the viewers were.

Modern madhouse could probably do the action better
>>
>>143200498
Madhouse finds a way.
>>
I tried it and thought it was terrible.

Then, a while later I watched the dub, and though it was still bad I enjoyed it more solely because they got Rueben Langdon back.

>Modern madhouse could probably do the action better
Really? Which key animator from Madhouse would have done it better?
>>
It had the tone of DMC2. I got a DVD of the anime with the limited edition of DMC4 and I threw the disc in the trash. The anime does the series no justice.
>>
>>143204119
Is there a better way to fill your list on mal with all the anime you've watched? Because i don't really want to waste hours just to add all the fucking shows i've seen.
>>
It could have been awesome had they put more effort into battle scenes and not made Dante permanently bored.
If they wanted a brooding type, then they needed to make him struggle more fighting enemies. A pre-DMC1 Dante would have been better for that.
If they really wanted a post-DMC1 Dante, then they needed to give him a personality like the one in DMC4, so that the fun factor can cover up the issues.
>>
I liked it wish Trish and Lady were in more episode though.
>>
>>143200498
They didn't.

>>143201164
Next time make sure you play the games before talking, DMC anime Dante is exactly the same as DMC1 Dante.

>>143204009
His only challenge in the games is Mundus.
>>
>>143211807
>His only challenge in the games is Mundus.
And Vergil in both 1 and 3. Dante got lucky during the first encounter with Nelo.
>>
I like the spin off VN better.
>>
>>143200913
The tone in the DMC anime would actually work for Berserk, though.

Here is what they fucked up as a whole.
> Audio mixing was horrible.
> Any trick to hide the budget was used i.e. characters almost always talking offscreen or mouths are hidden.
> Characters get no development.
> Action was almost non existant or happened off screen
> Overall narrative was shit, especially the ending.
Did I miss anything?
>>
>>143213100
> Audio mixing was horrible.
How can you judge this based on shitty 2007 rips?
>>
>>143213182
Take a listen to the audio in the first episode just as a prime example.
Whenever they talk in Devil May Cry (the bar not the show) almost all the audio sounds like it is being recorded in a giant foyer. You can barely hear the audio and it's not only there.
When the brothers are talking in the mansion it has the same problem but it jumps out at you by immediately correcting itself when one of them goes demon.
Plus the music tends to drown out most of the dialogue, granted that is probably one of the better parts of the series.

DMC1 has some of the chessiest lines ever.
>>
>>143213409
I'll need to rewatch. Maybe downloading the BD had fixed the mixing.
>>
>>143201841
is the anime canon? I will love to see her as in somekind of master-student relationship in the games, probably with Lady since she is a normal human too. Dante will not be pleased.
>>
I just remembered I bought first DVD some years ago. Found it for about $2, it would be a waste not to take it. Today was the first time I actually played it.
It's like the only anime I preferred to watch with English dub. It wasn't even present in my country's version.
>>
>>143213803
Don't think the games ever even had a JP language track so it's makes sense since only a handful of anime, games and films sound better in a language other than the one it was produced in. I know the first game didn't.
>>
>>143213982
Only DMC4:SE got optional Japanese voices. 7 years after original release.
>>
>>143214124
Seems like a waste. Hell, they could've used the money on more content in game. Seiyuu's are pretty expensive, right?
>>
>>143200498
They didn't.
You can't really match the action in a game and it was nice to have a SoL look.
>>
>>143214220
Depends on the seiyuu, though they usually get paid more from video games than anime.
I think Capcom tried to put as much content as they could with little effort and little time. I mean engine already had multilanguage voices capabilities.
>>
>>143213422
Didn't see a single chessboard throughout the game. You must be mistaken
>>

>>
>>143213080

>>
>>143200498
Not even a hint at devil transformation.
>>
>>143213100
Using the same voice actors for background characters so they all have the same voice. It's just as bad as Skyrim.
>>
>>143217704
He used Devil Trigger once. For a literal second.
>>
>>143216308
It doesn't.I watched my 100th anime years ago and i still think more than half of them weren't worth the time.
