In my opinion Steins;Gate was nice but definitely not ultra top tier.
I enjoyed the cheesy time machine mechanics together with the whole maddo scientisto charme and it definitely got me feeling in the second half but the pacing in the first half was really slow. I think the format works a lot better as game where you need the slow beginning to get familiar with everything, also making the decisions yourself is probably really intense and helps to feel the side characters. havent played the game tho.

The movie isn't -bad- but it certainly isn't on par with the series.
The main problem is that while the series is all about the struggle of the MC trying to go back in time to make things right again, the movie is all about the MC deciding whether or not they can be bothered to go back in time to make things right again. Much less tense and thus much less interesting. Apart from that it has its moments and is generally worth watching if you finished Steins;Gate and want MORE.

The movie also ignores the distinct bittersweetness of the VN and series. Even if others show some signs of reading steiner, the burden of remembering the countless other, tragic worlds falls to Okabe alone. He may have the unconditional support of Mayuri and likely the eventual love of Kurisu but he's going to carry that weight. His prize for his struggle against fate is a world and two people very special to him ignorant that it was and they were ever saved.
The the movie had some beautiful moments despite its weak story and it was a truly heartwarming ending, but the original work is lessened by its existence.

A lot of episodes of the show just seemed like how many now dated puns can we make in 20 minutes. Almost he entire fucking dialogue was just bad puns.
