It took me easily around a month, it was so long ago that I don't remember, but I really went over the top practising writing them over and over again, I was just so fascinated with the fact that I knew them that I really didn't care about moving on with my studies at all for a while afterwards, I wasn't in any kind of rush at the time
>>
>>143148142
If japanese is so nuanced, why do they need the english word for it?
>>
>>143147723
2 weeks, I still slow down on katakana though. too sharp for me.
>>
>>143147723
What's 'comfortable' for you? For me it's only comfortable if I stop making mistakes ever, and thus it took me some good ~2-3 months to get into hiragana. Therefore I'm still not comfortable with katakana but that's mostly because I don't see it nearly as often and シツケク are gay when I'm trying to read things quickly.
>>
Does anyone has the cat eating fish picture? お願いします
>>
>>143147723
No clue, before I knew it I could read hiragana comfortably.
You don't need to go out of your way to study hiragana after the initial learning phase (which should only last a few days), you'll encounter them enough that they'll be second nature soon enough.

Katakana is still a bitch thou
>>
>>143148359

>>
When you people complain about not being able to read shit after being studying for so long is it just about kanji or does grammar also take too long to sink in? How much did you read for your grammar reaching a confortable level where you're not sure if you got something wrong every few pages?

>>143148452
It's vocab. You can study for over a year and still run into 20 new words in under a minute of reading, it's a joke.
>>
>>143148456
Seems I'm not the only one playing PS2-exclusive VNs through PCSX2
>>
>>143148490
Doing only anki for a year isn't studying anon.
>>
>>143148452
Grammar can be a bitch if you can't think through it logically (though this is more at the beginning stage) and it depends on how complex the material is.
Kanji is the main offender really. We'll never know why Japs and other Asians didn't just spell words out with their alphabets.
>>
>>143148452
For me it's always grammar, if you encounter a new kanji or new vocabulary it takes all of a few seconds to look that shit up, but grammar constructions that you don't understand are a cunt to look up (if you even can) and an even bigger cunt to make sense of

Although you do run into vocab that you don't know a hell of a lot more frequently than you run into grammar you don't know, it just feels like less of a struggle with vocab

because "get the hang of grammar" is way too vague
there's always going to be room to improve

in about half a year I was fine with my comprehension of most written material, as long as I had a dictionary, but I didn't read a single manga in those six months
all I did was study kanji and watch subbed anime
>>
>>143149030
How? You can learn kanji just fine from home. The nuances of the language not.
>>

Just wrote hiragana characters about 10 times in a row for each.Took me maybe half an hour? Then I started doing genki first reading then writing (looking chars up whenever i didn't know how to read or write them.). Honestly writing was a bit pain in the ass, but it was obviously better then grinding. I think it took me about 2 chapters to get fully comfortable.

How is Genki? I find myself struggling through even a single chapter of tae kim. Not for difficulty, but it's hardly engaging, and I usually feel like I could lay down and take a nap after reading it for a bit.

Dude. "Authentic" Japanese sushi is on a revolving line for hours, they just spray water on it so it looks fresh.

You just ask the chef to make one in front of you. Anyways, Sushi is fast food, you shouldn't pay more than $1.50 for a plate.

So after taking a break for a couple months (damn it) I decided to start working on my japanese again.

最も means "most" as in "greatest extreme", not "majority", and is a prime example of why you should not be translating at a beginner level.
>>
>>143154832
he did translate that part correctly, he just also put a "most" in front of "human beings" for some reason
>>
>>143154103
That's the part that was confusing me - it seemed more natural that parents would contact the school. The translation (by near-bilingual grill) was basically "Please contact the school", but から sounds like the other way around. I don't really understand why.
>>
>>143154750

There is a pastebin guide, but I don't have it bookmarked, desustorage is down, and it's not in the guide. Why the hell is that not in the guide yet, it has been months.
>>
>>143154934
well I don't have the context, but that sentence sounds like it's referring to children in the school

the child falls ill at school, the school contacts the parents
>>
>>143154923

Upon second glance he did put "most unbearable feeling" in that other panel. But I would bet that he put "most humans" because of 最も - the first dictionary is "most", so, hey, why not put "most humans"?

I'm not claiming to be an expert by any means but that is a rookie mistake.

I got the solution by asking a mysterious place. For anyone who might be wondering you just put the hook code where it says "here", and press enter. A new option should appear on the drop-down menu that hooks the text correctly.

I like Genki much better than Tae Kim. It's a lot more detailed, and the pace is a bit slower. Tae Kim is much better just as a reference. For instance sometimes go to the search bar and search shit that I don't know.

This makes utilising it in an SRS EVEN MORE VIABLE.

The POINT of an SRS is to spend the LEAST amount of time on something.

Honesty fucking kill yourselves. Your exact reasoning can be applied to Core, to kanji decks, to grammar guides, to fucking anything.
