My favourite manga is Shoujo, so yes.

A real man should at least watch/read at least one of every genre. This includes Yaoi and Bara.

I'd say about 1 out of 100 shoujo mangas are worth a read, but the rest of them end up being Fujoshit and over-saturated pages of roses and sparkly shit.

Ore monogatori was decent, and iirc Horimiya is shoujo as well. There's a few others i've read that i'm missing.

>Shoujo sometimes has better romance story than Shonen
Not surprising considering Shoujo is more romance oriented.
Romance in shounen tend to be just so that the MC has a girl, and these days it mostly come down to harems.

Shoujo tends to be rather stupid, but when they nail down the romance it's really nice.

>>

I prefer the journey (shonen) to the mutual relationship, but the MC always picks worst girl anyway, so I lose regardless

Mahou shoujo can be good, but regular shoujo is always nothing but a cringeworthy collection of generic clichés, self-insert main girls blushing at anything and everything the bad boy love interest says, lolrandumxD chibi faces, MISUNDERSTANDINGS and forced drama.

Power!! is pretty much the only example I've seen of a shoujo manga that actually has some entertainment value other than shitty romance for little girls to squee over.

Nothing wrong some decent romance. If it has one. I've enjoyed a few that do. But the MC in some ridiculous situation and potential love interests with stupidly exaggerated traits isn't exclusive to things written for guys.

What I dislike about a lot of shoujo are rather consistent aspects I see in the art. Flat drawings, huge focus on characters, crappy backgrounds, bubbles everywhere, and tremendous screentone usage.

They're for the same demographic and have some shared aspects, but mahou shoujo are much more entertaining for all audiences since they tend to have a plot that goes beyond revolving around generic relationship drama.

>>143121488
Apparently you never received basic fiction training, so I'll inform you that those are what are known as different genres, and that there are a lot more than two of them. Or are you about to tell me that Kodocha and Basara are the same because they're both shoujo but not mahou shoujo?
>>
>>143119418
Of course not. What are you, gay? The only non-degenerate genre for guys to read is BL.
>>
>>143121614
It's actually not, that's a misconception because certain third-party sites made a mistake about the magazine's demographic for a long time. You can check the publisher's website, they clearly mark Cookie as a shoujo magazine.
>>
>>143121617

Yeah, that happens to be what I said. Keep being a butthurt contrarian because people don't like your generic self-insert shoujo, though.

>>
>>143121565

>>
>>143120013
>>143120262
It's honestly a mixed bag for me. Shoujo has the benefit of actually being focused on romance, but that often leads to the author pulling out seriously stupid drama bullshit ranging from MISUNDERSTANDINGS to the plot becoming a near reverse harem as multiple guys fall for the MC.

Shonen of course appears to be at a disadvantage because it's not focused on the romance, but that oftentimes sweeps away the annoying drama that comes along with it. A well done shonen romance is a wonderful thing to behold.

But yeah, the majority of times it's just some one-personality girl for the MC to hook up with.
>>
>>143120485
I was reading this and enjoying it, but then the female lead just kept getting more and more annoying about moving out and not confessing to the guy for nothing more than drama.

Then the brother was revealed to have a crush on her too and that crossed the line. Dropped. Why does EVERY GUY in the manga have a fucking crush on this girl. I don't watch haremshit and I'm sure not going to read reverse haremshit.
>>
It got less gay as it went on but I really just loved it for its music and atmosphere. 10/10 audiovisual stimulation

>>
>>143122164
I don't think this was aimed at a shoujo audience.
>>
>>143122111

Shonen romance isnt as bad as Shoujo but I guess its demographics as men are totally fine with the male protagonist to "consider his options" as Shoujo "part time Sempai" comes across as cheating.

Then again, Shoujo really have some abusive relationships, like Hot Gimmick but then again, its not like thats a Japan only thing, western novels are fulled of that type of behavior anyway.

>>143119418

It was pretty decent, but towards the end everything kind of spiraled out of control and I didn't even understand what was going on.

>>
>>143124926
The overall story which is Rain and the immortal's conflict came to a straight end, but the origin is somewhat left unknown.
But yeah I think it is either that, or the author meant to conclude that detail about ancient past and such as ambiguous since she only wanted to focus on Rain and Machika's adventure. I really enjoyed it, I wish it could have been longer and handled a bit heavier (even thought it's a shoujo )

>>
>>143128540
Golden Time and Kokoro Connect are LNs, which don't have these demographics, and True Tears is an anime original, which is the same, so none of those could be josei/shoujo no matter what. It isn't determined by the content (not directly), it's determined by the magazine a manga runs in.

And anyway, all three of those are pretty clearly written with men in mind, I'd say.
>>
>>143128540
Golden Time and Kokoro Connect are aimed at young men. The girls are designed to be appealing rather than relateable and the plot cues are different from shoujo.

True Tears similarly.

Oh, I did know that Shoujo/josei etc are magazine demographics (thanks to Bakuman) I just didn't know none of those were manga adaptation.

There's plenty of good SoL shoujo, and some romance that are really nice. There are also really shit melodramatic romance shoujo that look like stories you'd expect Okada to write.

On that note, does anyone know which category the 2 or 3 shoujo romance adaptations airing next season fall under? I haven't read the source material and I'm wondering if they're worth picking up.
>>
>>143128374
I just read the synopsis. Is this going to be some shit like 5cm/s or Shigatsu, or is it going to actually be good? If it's just teenagers whining about relationship problems in the most overblown of ways, or being stupid on purpose to halt the plot, I'm not really interested.
>>
>>143132378
The main plot isn't really romance, though there's a lot of it. The main male character commits suicide in the original timeline and the main girl sends a letter to teenage self to stop that from happening. As a side note if you expect the time traveling letter to be explained, you'll be disappointed.

There's a lot of stupidity that stems from "But if I change this event, the rest of what I know will be useless!" I can't remember much of it. I liked the manga a lot but my taste is pretty shit anyway. Can't compare to Shigatsu since I haven't seen it, but I don't like 5 cm/s. I think Orange was pretty successful in the emotional department, my heart was wrenched and tears were shed.

I don't want plot points spoiled, I just want to know how much time is spent on teenagers crying and sulking because that kind of melodrama is shit.

I like Taiyou no Ie because of the Dad NTR and Croquette. The main 'pair' sucks and the drama is shit.
>>
>>143134215
He didn't involve himself in too much drama or became an edgelord though we know it hurts him to see the the girl he likes to never look his way.

Goddamn, I am still angry when I remember it.

I like shoujo when the girl is like REALLY GREAT or when it's guy's POV e.g nijiiro days, also none of that yaoi crap

Loved:

>Love So Life
>Taiyou no Ie
>Nijiiro Days (shit needs to remove S/M fag and bump Taizo and Chiba to main couple status)

Tried to like but failed:
>Hirunaka no Ryuusei

Wasted potential:
>Akagami

The stupid (second) Lyrias arc and the current one really sapped the momentum out of the story. I would have much rather see them navigate palace intrigues with Raji in tow.

Dropped Magus Bride.

The manga is only five volumes so it's not like you'll lose too much time if you try it anyway.
>>
>>143123053
fucking this
They also portray them to be rich abusive assholes
>>
>>143134613
I'll give the anime a shot. Since it's short, do you expect it all to get adapted?
>>
>>143134633
>abusive assholes
I feel like there's a lot less of this in recent shoujo. Either that or I'm just lucky in what I pick since I haven't come across one in a while.
>>
>>143134633
Or oblivious, emasculated faggots.

Is it too much to ask for a well-adjusted, nihilistic, witty and realistic MC for me to self-insert as ? Last Game's MC was pretty cool and I loved the university vibe.
>>
>>143134691
Probably yeah, would be weird if they didn't considering it's finished and one-cour would be enough to adapt it.
>>
>>143134771
>tfw it is ending soon

I fucking loved Yanagi's antics
>>
>>143134718
Fantasy style shoujou like Shirayuki or Soredemo Sekai wa Utukushii usually have an actual plot and likable male lead that had a real relationship with the girl instead of NTR bait and misunderstandings. Those are the best.
>>
>>143134807
Well the promise of not too much time spent on crying teens coupled with an actual ending is enough to hook me. I'm in.
>>
>>143123370
Romance in seinen is almost always incredibly creepy.
>>
Is the Inu x Boku SS anime worth watching or does the manga have more? I noticed it has a lot of good seiyuu in it.

I like shoujo. I have a shitload of raws, maybe I'll get around to translating some of them someday. Mostly Year 24-gumi stuff.

I wish Last Game dealt more with the side characters though. It felt slightly short to me.

That said, Seishun Kouryakuhon did more than most shoujo ever do with far less pages. I regard it a greater accomplishment than Akagami from the same author.

Just finished reading the latest Nijiiro Days raws and its damned comfy. Probably my favourite right now.

Shounen Maid was mostly just a SoL comedy with a bit of fujo/shota bait. Not really gay.

Author is dead. Start it only if you can live with never seeing the ending.
>>
>>143134718
It's not just you, male tsunderes seems to be the new "it" trope for male leads.
>>
>>143136209
I really liked the manga as well, the art is terrible for the first 5 books but then it's more similar to the anime.

I still don't understand why people don't like the ending though, people really think Ouran was just a "parody"? stuff like Tamaki's issues with his family were there since the start of the series. I agree with the drama about the twins but I thought it was short considering what other manga did with this kind of theme, and Haruhi was on point rejecting Hikaru, because she doesn't love him. She could have been beating around the bush but that didn't happen

Also, Tamaki was best boy.

It's part of his development to become less of a delusional manchild, but not becoming someone else entirely. So yes, he gets better. Also, Haruhi likes him that way, even though he annoys her sometimes he truly knows how to be nice and sensible.

I think the key to this is multipandering rather than lack of fanservice. If I recall correctly Nozaki is published on a webzine that features both shounen and shoujo and if shows. Haven't read Oresama Teacher, so I don't know if the author gave it more "shoujo" conventions or if it's as self-aware as Nozaki, but I heard it's good.
>>
>>143141308
Nozaki's shounen, actually. It's just that Square Enix in general likes the multipandering thing and their publications run a lot of shounen with female appeal, e.g. Pandora Hearts and Black Butler.
