At first the show seems amazingly intriguing with all the mysterious plot threads being set up but as it rolls to a close there's this sad realisation that Ikuhara really was just throwing shit at a wall and it won't end up coming together.
Direction is top tier, it's funny, exciting, weird, ending is great, but it's disappointing in that it could have been a true masterpiece.
GREAT directing. The art direction is absolutely perfect.
Decent characters. Some of them are annoying or stupid, but they're 'human' at least.

I remember the paragraphs upon paragraphs of anons arguing back and for over interpretations od symbolism, dialogue and events, analyzing every single frame and narrative device and exchanging theories/explanations for what everything meant and why things were happenings.
I don't think I've ever genuinely enjoyed an episode of a show as much as the library episode of penguindrum, and the discussion it provoked was incredible.
It was very good. I'd rate it a 6/10, which is a good score for me because I am very critical.

Just finished watching this a couple weeks ago. GOAT soundtrack, character design, and directing. All the music for the show is great, I can't get enough of Triple H. Was surprised that this was so good and an original work to boot.

It's fun to just go back and rewatch a random episode. There really is a lot of foreshadowing throughout the series and it's fun to pick up on it in hindsight.

He talks about how people frustrated by society look to ideologies like this for a radical change and that's what shibirerudarou-san represents.

If you can't into Ikuhara symbolism you're probably thinking too hard about it. Try Utena, it's much more in-your-face with the symbols compared to MPD. It gets to the point where he literally has a little floating hand onscreen pointing to a symbol which is relevant to the episode at one time.
