Talking about this topic I have been trying to find a surten scene. It's one of the last scenes of Owarimonogatari (Shinobu mail) where Ononoki asks Araragi if he is happy that he became a vampire, or if Araragi still feels that being with Shinobu results in nobody becoming happy.
Araragi answers: '' I still feed that way'' He still believes that being with her makes nobody happy and at the same time he says that he brings Shinobu misfortune.
Ononoki tells Araragi that he doesn't even try to become happy. Ononoki tells him that he is doing nothing in order to be happy in the first place, he is just staying 'unhappy' by his own will. He should be aming for the happy ending.

I think so too. However, "please wait in line until Senjougahara dies" isn't exactly something he can ask Shinobu to do without being a massive dick. So right now he's just trying to circumvent the guilt of being that kind of person by trying to pretend that they need that long for their relationship to progress. The net effect of this is the same, but instead Shinobu just has to deal with it, regardless of how she feels, without Araragi even giving her the courtesy of being upfront about what he wants.
